I was planning on writing an article sharing my unpopular opinions but I realized that with one of those opinions, I had A LOT to say. Therefore, I will be writing a separate article to that one opinion, of why JYP is one of the worst companies in Kpop. This is just my opinion and you may very well have a different one than me!

Most of the time, it is the minors. Which, for any case of sexualization against the person's will is wrong, but for minors that is just a whole other case of disgusting. Tzuyu of TWICE, for example, with that one elevator dance she had to do when she was only fifteen. I'm not putting a link because it is disgusting and wrong. HyunA is another example when she was still in JYP (and Cube also sexualized her). HyunA's entire career was based on her being sexy and sexualized.

Also, Itzy with that one dance move during the rap in Dalla Dalla. The first time I watched the music video I got the creeps because I didn't feel the dance was appropriate for their age. Got7 even called him out for being a creep, favoriting, and practically flirting with the girl groups.

(This is one example)

On June 30, 2015 episode 9 of the survival show "SIXTEEN" created by JYP Entertainment and Mnet, JYP is shown telling something to Jihyo that visibly hurt her feelings. This is what he said:

JYP- "Have I ever criticized you for your dancing or singing? What do you think is your problem?"

Jihyo- "Taking care of myself."

JYP- "Your dance looks slow. If you gain weight, of course you'll look like that. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is get on the scale. While the other girls practice their singing, you have to lose weight."

Jihyo- "He's right. It ended up like this and it's my fault."

Not only that, a photographer that was on the show literally called her fat. "Who is this girl here? Jihyo you look too fat." "She's too chubby. Because she's so chubby..." "Keeping form is part of the job, it's not just nothing, it's very important." to which Jihyo replies, "I will lose the weight." Even though JYP himself isn't the one who says this, he just laughs it off and nods his head. She isn't even fat. Just because she wasn't as skinny as the rest doesn't automatically mean she is overweight and is obese. I literally was screaming in my head watching that scene.

Itzy's concept is all about loving yourself and accepting who you are, and yet JYP made a few of the girls lose weight before their debut. If you yourself want to lose weight I find that okay because it is your own choice, but forcing someone else to lose weight and then have their whole concept be about loving yourself is totally going against the whole point of their songs.

Let's just start straight off with this song by Jay Park:

In this song it is directed towards JYP and how he never wants his boy groups to be more popular than him.

"My past teacher is jealous because we may become same-same."
"You're an entertainer who buys and sells fans."
"Even if you block me, I keep goin' straight."
"But oh no, old geezer ahjusshi still can't act his age. So childish, childish. This is my fifth year enjoying my freedom. Without knowing how, I became rich. Who's the hottest, AOMG. Even if you get in my way, I can do this much."
"The biggest difference between you and me is rather than eat and live on my own I'll starve and die together. Oh, ** that will never happen. It's impossible. What I do is music, what you do is politics. But whatev, gotta do what you gotta do to beat me. I understand."

I'm going to explain the lyric of, "Who's the hottest, AOMG." It is said that this lyric is a reference to 2PM being bigger than JYP. Hottest is 2PM's fanbase name because it is the hottest point in the day, as well as AOMG being the label Jay Park created himself after leaving 2PM and JYP entertainment. Basically, he is referencing both his former group, 2PM, as well as his label, AOMG, being hotter than JYP.

I'm also going to write down a comment I found on the video linked above, "When Sidus HQ signed Jay, JYP released the following statement 'We're suspicious of Sidus HQ's ulterior motive in taking a singer we terminated, and promoting them. It's a violation of business ethics.' Sidus HQ responded with, 'A talented singer was forced to drop his dreams due to an unfortunate event. We merely wanted to give him another chance.' it's clear Jay didn't leave on his own accord and was kicked out. JYP expected no one to sign Jay and expected that to be the end of his music career. Then he tried to pull some media play by making it into a sob story when he titled 2PM's album as 1:59. He did the same ** with Day6. I'm glad that Jay stays winning."

Let's talk about Day6 now. Just a month ago Jay called out JYP for not promoting his solo stuff like he does with the other members and not letting him post on his YouTube cannel anymore (As well as BamBam of Got7 being rejected of creating his own channel). Day6 is starting to get more attention and some more songs now though and I am glad because I really like Day6.

This goes hand and hand with the boy group mistreatment but instead Got7 just gets their own section because there is a lot to unpack. The first, being just like how Jay Park saying how JYP doesn't like the males in his company being bigger than him, made Jinyoung go by JR for about 3-4 years because JYP didn't want there to be two Jinyoungs and possibly taking the spotlight away from him because they had the same name. That's why Jinyoung was always so mad when someone still called him JR, because of JYP.

There is also a theory going around (Which remember a theory is just speculation and doesn't necessarily mean it is true) that says Got7 wasn't even supposed to debut but at the time JYP was in so much debt he ended up debuting them to save the company and earn money. Which yes, looking at the timeline JYP was in a huge debt when Got7 debut. He even stated he preferred a girl group but investors preferred a boy group so therefore JYP debut Got7 because he knew that Got7 would help him earn money if investors preferred a boy group.

Youngjae also stated this in one of his Vlives, "Can I tell this? I practiced really hard after having received this song from the producer. I felt really sorry to our members. Because, when I sang this song, he (JYP) seemed not so satisfied. And he told me that we would not make it to debut due to me. That's why I felt really sorry to our members. So in order not to bother others, I thought that I should practice more."

I also totally forgot about this but just remembered when they gave Mark used chopsticks. The look on his face said it all.

(Here is the chopsticks video)

There is so many other moments and I suggest you look it up on YouTube because you will find many videos on it. Honestly sad and Got7 and other groups in JYP deserve better.

Now, he doesn't reject ALL songs, but a lot of them. It is mainly Got7's songs as well because "it is not Got7's color." On a Vlive, JB revealed the original version of Eclipse that was orginally named, "Leave It To Me." Got7's Eclipse took over 15 different versions of the song for JYP to finally like it, because of the fact that instead of not being Got7's color, this time is was "not JYP's color." JB also revealed on that Vlive that he had gotten multiple nosebleeds due to the pressure and stress of producing this song as well as many of Got7's other songs. JYP was the one who ended up fixing the song so much so that JB couldn't even recognize it. Sad thing is, most fans including me actually prefer the original version of the song.

JYP also listens to one second of Got7's songs and then proceeds to reject them. Like I am not even kidding he listens to ONE SECOND of the song before rejecting it.

(Original version of the song)

Sunmi's Siren was also rejected, but I heard the reason for that one was because he didn't want a group to sing it (Wonder Girls) and instead just Sunmi herself to sing Siren.

Stray Kids is the only group/artists who really has full creative freedom over their songs, mainly because their whole "group color" is a producing group. I also saw a comment stating this may also be because Chan wouldn't back down writing his own songs, in which I have to agree with.

I don't think I have to go into too much depth with this one. It is obvious TWICE is overworked as well as Stray Kids/Bang Chan. It is a running joke and worry that Chan doesn't sleep and Stays always tell him to go to bed but he doesn't because he is busy writing and producing songs. Like rest Chan. Please rest.

Now, this definitely happens with some male soloists in JYP but I have just seen it more with the females. No comebacks. They are lucky if they even get one a year. Blackpink who? Right as their contracts end they immediately leave as well. Baek A-yeon, Yubin, Sunmi and Jamie are all examples. Jamie even complained on shows when she was still in JYP about needing an album and reminding him that she's a singer.

These are some of my most favorite solo artists, and even though they were in a big company, they couldn't even be promoted properly.

Just like Jay Park, other artists who have left JYP express their opinions about him not usually in a fond tone. Jay Park has stated another thing about JYP before saying the trainees would be physically punished when they made a singing or dancing mistake, though luckily it is not like that nowadays.

As well as Sunmi, speaking up saying she and other artists were controlled into doing what he wanted them do to and whatever look he said they wanted them to have they had to look and act that way. He made Sunmi sing in a style that was not hers, and on a show she went on she stated that as JYP can be a good experience, any singer that leaves JYP never wants to renew their contract.

(This is an example)

Of course most of them will still remain on good terms with JYP but they always have complaints about him.

"No offense to itzy but they've been on more reality shows and promoted better than all jyp boy groups combined"

"It seems like jyp is more biased over his girl groups than his boy groups"

"bro I'd rather listen to the songs jb produced himself *** is wrong with JYP those are so fire" (Honestly I want a full album with all of the rejected songs can we make this happen? Probably not because it is JYP.)

"I genuinely don't understand the people defending JYPE in these newer comments. Even if you think JYP(E) limiting GOT7's creative freedom is totally okay and justified, there is absolutely no justification for how JYPE responds to their sasaeng/stalker situations. Youngjae has personally called out sasaengs SEVEN TIMES on his Instagram since 2016, and yet nothing has been done. Mark, Bambam, and Jackson have all had their addresses leaked and apparently these posts were left up for days. JYPE keeps posting their typical copy and pasted "notices" and yet not a single person is ever reprimanded. And most importantly: THEY DON'T LISTEN. People have been emailing them about these issues for years and they just continue to ignore our complaints. What are they going to do when someone gets seriously injured due to their incompetence?"

This last comment is SO true. Like JYP does everything in his power to protect the girl groups from sasaengs (Especially Nayeon from TWICE) and yet can't do a single thing to protect the boy groups. At least Got7 and the other boy groups are more respectful to women than JYP has ever been cough cough Who's Your Mama? cough cough.

Anyways, I hope people begin to realize that the treatment JYP gives to his soloists, boy groups, and even girl groups is terrible and something needs to be done to fix this. Of course no entertainment company will be fully good, that isn't possible, but saying JYP is the best or one of the best is far from true. Of course there is good things about JYP like taking mental health seriously and making sure his idols rest is they have health issues, but that is the only thing good I can really think of besides the music his artists sing. Personally, I like MNH Entertainment who has Chungha and BVNDIT. That's just my opinion though. I hope you enjoyed this article and learned something new about JYP.
