Welcome back to another article, this weeks theme is Platonic Soulmates

As usual everyone has chosen 1-2 books with the theme.

For those of you that don’t know what that is, here is a little explanation : A platonic soulmate is someone you love as much as you would love your significant other but in a non romantic way. Like a soulmate but not romantic, it’s most often a best friend. Someone you feel you can be your true self with.

What’s so good about it : Friendships can sometimes be so much better than relations to read about. It might be easier to read and relate to. Friendships are much purer and wholesome to read about and often have way less problems.

Loveless by Alice Oseman
As she starts university with her best friends, Georgia’s ready to find romance, and with her outgoing roommate on her side and a place in the Shakespeare Society, her ‘teenage dream’ is in sight. But when her romance plan wreaks havoc amongst her friends, Georgia ends up in her own comedy of errors, and she starts to question why love seems so easy for other people but not for her. With new terms thrown at her – asexual, aromantic – Georgia is more uncertain about her feelings than ever.

Do you want to read a romance with people running after each other in a very dramatic way and grand declarations of love, but without the romance? Then read this very heartwarming book where, as Georgia discovers herself, she develops a beautiful friendship with her roommate, Rooney.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

While I I also love my second choice, I think Finnick and Katniss will always be the ultimate book friendship for me. They came to trust each other in probably the worst circumstances possible but they also saved each other. Finnick not only survived his second Games but then chooses to keep going with Katniss despite the fact that he doesn’t have to. Despite them knowing each other for such a little amount of time, they instantly feel safer when in each other’s company.
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires—the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

This is a series of six books but don’t let that scare you! Rose and Lissa is one of my favourite book friendships ever. They have their rough patches but they never stop fighting for each other and they always find their way back to each other. While they’re magically connected, they’re also connected through their love for one another. This series (and the sequel) has been one of my top comfort reads for as long as I can remember.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color. The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war—and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now

When we choose this theme Kenji and Juliette were the first ones to pop into my mind. From book one you can see them becoming friends and it only blossoming from there on. They are so protective of each other and care for each other so much that the guy Julitte ends up dating gets jealous. They are so incredibly cute together and Kenji carries this whole series on his back if we’re being honest.

That's all from us this week. Check out our latest articles
