I often come across articles recommending songs, books, tv shows and movies depending on the season or what one might be in the mood for. Following this, I would like to recommend a show that has been sadly both overlooked and cancelled : One Day At Time. This reboot of the 1975-1984 original show of the same title follows a Latinx family, the Alvarez as they go through life's hardships and tribulations. I'm aware the show has been recommended before, but one more time doesn't hurt ^^ Also, I'm literally doing my Master's Thesis on the show, so I have this visceral need to talk about it.

The family is headed by Penelope, a veteran-turned-nurse, recently divorced and dealing with PTSD, depression and anxiety.

With her are her two kids, Elena, a 15-year-old social justice warrior who figures out her sexuality in the first season, and her brother, 12 year-old Alex, whose snarky comments yet unyielding support to his family,

Finally, Abuelita, Lydia, played by the magnificient Rita Moreno, diva-like, flair for the dramatics and sensual grandma who will have you laughing your face off.

This sitcom is layered with essential conversations about race & racism, mental health, sexuality & sexual orientation, feminism, drugs, alcohol and more. You will laugh, you will cry, and at the end of the show, you'll feel like you're a part of the Alvarez family.

The show's first three seasons are available on Netflix, and for the 6 episodes of season 4, I hope you have other ways of finding shows :)
