Although it might be easier to grab a nail polish color of your choice, paint your nails, add a clear top coat, and move on with your life, it doesn’t help make your manicure stand out. It can get quite boring. Perhaps during the winter months you can get away with it, but spring and summer call for beautifully-bold colors, and fun designs!

A trend that is taking over this spring and summer is color blocking. It’s all about lines, stripes, and vibrant color schemes. The great thing about this trend is that it’s simple to do at home. You don’t need to spend money at the salon to achieve the look. All you need are some very simple tools, and you’ll be on your way to achieving color-blocked nails!

Below are some of our picks for color-blocked nails, and how to do each style.

Which one will you try first?

How To: First paint each, entire nail bubblegum pink. Do two coats total. Let it dry completely. Then, use a nail liner brush (this will allow you to paint on bold lines), to paint a strip of red polish on the left side of each nail. Do one coat of the red polish. Let that dry completely. Lastly, use your Nail Striper brush to paint a thin stripe where the pink polish meets with the red. This thin stripe will be painted with orange nail polish. Do two coats of the orange stripe. Let it dry a bit, and then put a clear top coat on all nails to finish.

How To: You will need a total of 15 nail polish colors. Each nail will have 3 different varieties of a certain color. For example, your thumb nail will have light pink, medium pink, and red polish. Your index finger will have yellow, coral, and dark orange. Etc. You will first paint each nail (entirely, as it is your base color) with the lightest shade polish within the color family you have designated for that nail. Let it dry. Then use a nail liner brush, and paint on a bold line down the center, using the medium shade of your chosen color scheme. Let it dry a bit. Then use your nail liner brush, and paint on a bold line down the left side of each nail. You will use the darkest shade of your color scheme for this. Finish off with a clear top coat.
