I would recommend most of these- I really enjoyed watching them!
Amelie (2001)
A magical film, with incredible cinematography that is such a pleasure to watch. The simplicity and optimism of the narrative, combined with the uniqueness, makes this the perfect pick-me-up. Rating: 9.5/10
Malcolm & Marie (2021)
Brilliant acting performances from the two leads- particularly Zendaya. However, this wasn't enough to save the repetitive plot that made the whole film feel like the same argument happening over and over. Rating: 5/10
Vertigo (1958)
Lots of exciting plot twists, in classic Hitchcock fashion, and a beautiful use of colour. It's not my favourite Hitchcock film, the emphasis on female objectification can be a little uncomfortable. Rating: 8/10
The Gentlemen (2019)
This was my second watching this film and it's just as funny and exciting as I remember. I watched it in cinema the first time, which definitely enhanced the experience, but the excellent cast and entertaining story are enough to make this great. Rating: 9/10
Breathless (1960)
A French classic that has brilliant characters. I loved the dialogue and the simplicity of the narrative and the ending still managed to surprise me. Rating: 9/10
Valentine's Day (2010)
This is a guilty pleasure of mine, but I also feel it is criminally underrated. It has a brilliant cast and a host of funny story lines that all connect astonishingly well. Rating: 8.5/10
Do the Right Thing (1989)
An extremely powerful film that carries a strong message, despite a light-hearted set up. It was darker than I'd expected but it makes sense because it is very impactful. Rating: 8.5/10
Pride and Prejudice (2005)
Such an enjoyable adaptation with a great balance of drama, romance and humor. The costumes and locations are absolutely perfect and I will never stop re-watching this. Rating: 9/10
Burn After Reading (2008)
The cast in this film was the main draw for me- and they did not disappoint. However, I found the overall film quite dull and the occasional funny moments were not enough to save it. Rating: 5.5/10
8 1/2 (1963)
I enjoyed this beautiful film but, at times, struggled to understand it- I assume multiple viewings are required. The blurred lines between dream and reality make this a fascinating watch. Rating: 8/10
Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004)
A great conclusion to the set up of the first film. I feel like this was a little too similar to the first, but not as good. However, it was a solid, entertaining film with tense, exciting moments. Rating: 8/10
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
Of course this was a great film, Wes Anderson is amazing! Funny dialogue, lovely colours and a unique concept make this film extremely enjoyable. It wasn't as good as other Wes Anderson films- but still great. Rating: 7/10
Hail, Caesar! (2016)
This film had a great cast,a few funny moments and beautiful locations and costumes. However, the story felt very disjointed and all-over-the-place and the ending was extremely underwhelming. Rating: 4.5/10
Reservoir Dogs (1992)
One of my favourite films ever! So funny, intense and clever and I love the music and characters. Rating: 10/10
Good Time (2017)
Super intense and fast-paced, a great action-packed film that takes place in a small amount of time. I found some elements a little frustrating, but it was ultimately enjoyable. Rating: 7.5/10
