Lauren Jauregui was born on June 27, 1996 in Miami, Florida, under the name Lauren Michelle Jauregui Morgado. Her parents, Michael Jauregui and Clara Morgado (both from Cuba), emigrated to the United States before her birth. She is the older sister of Christopher and Taylor Jauregui. She is a second generation Cuban-American. Her first language is Spanish and her native language is English. Jauregui won a scholarship for which she attended Carrollton Sacred Heart School from the seventh grade.

At age 16, Jauregui auditioned for the second season of the television show The X Factor in Greensboro, North Carolina with the song "If I Ain't Got You".
