The fetal position is the most popular way to sleep for many, especially women who are twice as likely as men to sleep curled up on their side. This position allows your spine to rest in its natural alignment. Regularly sleeping in the fetal position can also help to ward off the likelihood of Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s later on in life. Sleeping on your side helps the brain clear waste that can lead to these neurological diseases.

Log

The log position is when you sleep straight on your side, with both arms to your side. This position can help to reduce sleep apnea, and eliminate neck or back pains.

Freefall

Freefall is when you lay on your stomach with your arms tucked under your pillow or on either side of your head. As cozy as it is, sleeping on your stomach can lead to lower back and neck pain. This position also leads to increased tossing and turning throughout the night.

Soldier

The Soldier position is when you lay flat on your back, with arms by your side. Unfortunately, this position is prone to causing snoring -- which can disrupt your sleep and lead to problems with the carotid artery. The only upside to this position is it can help reduce acid reflux.

Starfish

The starfish sleep position is when you’re on your back, but your legs are spread apart, and your arms are bent up on either side of your head. This position also helps with acid reflux, but it can also make you more likely to snore, and experience sleep apnea.
