Hello everyone! Today I want to tell you some things I learned by looking for a job in 2020, when I’m still in college and the pandemic is active.

Note: I’m not an expert on these things, I’m only giving advice based on my own experience.

1. Lot of people don’t take you seriously if you’re still in college

Of course there are exceptions, there are good people who will trust you and make you feel part of their job family. But lot of businesses want people who already have 2 or 3 years of experience at least, despite the fact that you just graduate.

2. Having contacts is very important

When you impress a person and you get their contact, you get to stay in their minds. This way, when it gets difficult to get a job, you can go to them to ask for a recommendation with a friend or a job that they may know about. It's not like cheating, in the real world, having contacts who can reference and corroborate your work actually helps to find jobs.

3. If you are in college, internships are the best option

Maybe you won't get paid or not as much as you wanted, but the experience will be so worth it. You can put that in your curriculum and it will make such a big difference when applying to a job you like. Also, there is a big chance you get hired in the same business of your internship if you did a good job.

4. College is the best time to take little jobs and meet the job world

When you graduate you will have more responsibilities ( a roof, food, internet, etc) to take care of than only discovering the job world. When you are in college, you are freer to try everything and make mistakes without having a big repercussion on your economy. Besides, you get experience.

5. Don't be so hard on yourself

Maybe you need to already have some experience by the time you graduate, but you shouldn’t make that an obsession. Getting a job usually takes time, and things change everyday. Trust, because you will find a job, sometimes where you least expect it.

6. Youth is the best time to start a business

If you want to start your own business, now is the best time. Yeah, it requires money and the process won’t be easy, but if you are passionate about it, you will find the way to make it stand. Who knows? Maybe that will be your actual job in the future.

7. Everyone can make money of social media

If you are a creative person, social media can be your best ally. You can make a YouTube channel, sell your services or creations online, give classes online, make TikToks, etc. Of course, making that a stable and a reliable source will take time, but it can be worth it.

8. Everything counts in the curriculum

Little jobs, internships, publications, volunteering, self-jobs. All of that says something about you, never let anything out.

9. Take as many courses, internships and volunteering opportunities as you can

Today, businesses take people who don't just stay there. They look for people that are constantly learning and upgrading themselves. The more skills you have, the more change you’ll have to get a job.

10. Ask your friends and teachers for advice

I can assure you that, at least one person that you know, has a contact or a job offer you can participate in. I know it can be kind of embarrassing to ask, but if you don’t, the answer will always be no and you will never know if that activity/job was right for you.

11. Virtuality is the future

With the pandemic, a lot of businesses realized that maybe it can be more profitable to work directly from home, and some will move to this modality. Pay attention to this idea and learn from it.

Hope you like it and that some of these things help you a little bit in your search. See you next time!
