The Talking Heads were an American band who were ranked 100th on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. They were a major influence on the new wave genre, integrating elements of punk and funk, amongst others. David Byrne's distinctive, jerky vocals, their experimental sound and intellectual lyrics make their music easily recognizable and lovable. Their biggest hits are Psycho Killer, This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody), and Burning Down the House. ((I love them a lot, if I haven't made it obvious yet!!😁😍))

The Police were an English band consisting of the members Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland. Their music was influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz, and they were one of the best-selling and biggest bands of all time. Sting's instantly recognizable voice and Summers' and Copeland's musical talents make them truly iconic today. Their best-known songs are Every Breath You Take, Roxanne, Message In A Bottle, and Don't Stand So Close To Me.

4. Nirvana

Nirvana was an American band who are famous for their grunge aesthetic. Their music popularized alternative rock, fusing pop melodies with punk/metal-style noise. Nirvana are inarguably among the greatest artists of all time. They disbanded after Kurt Cobain's death in 1994, but remain iconic to this day. Their most popular songs are Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, and Heart-Shaped Box.

5. AC/DC

AC/DC are an Australian band formed by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. They are regarded today as the definition of "rock and roll" in popular culture; they are said to be the greatest rock and roll band of all time. After the band's first singer, Bon Scott died of alcohol poisoning, he was replaced by Brian Johnson. Johnson is the best-known lead singer of AC/DC, with whom the band achieved its biggest success, including creating the highest-selling album by any band, Back in Black (dedicated to Scott's memory). Their trademark look includes Angus Young dressed in a schoolboy's outfit, since he was only 18 when they started performing, and he wore it onstage. Their most popular songs are Highway to Hell, Thunderstruck, Back In Black, and You Shook Me All Night Long.

6. Guns 'N Roses

Guns 'N Roses is an American band whose music is instantly recognizable, with lead singer Axl Rose's distinctive, screechy voice, the band's honest and gritty lyrics, and their powerful melodies and rhythms. They were very controversial as they rose to fame, provoking people with their dark and dirty messages, and also earning respect for their raw talent; they were nicknamed "the most dangerous band in the world". In my humble opinion their music is beautiful and iconic, but sure, dangerous...:D Their most popular songs include Sweet Child O' Mine, November Rain, Welcome To The Jungle, and Paradise City.

7. The Who

The Who are an English band who are considered to be one of the most influential rock bands; they popularized the use of the synthesizer, amongst other things, and are still wildly popular. They based their rhythm on guitarist Townshend's energetic chords, which was very unconventional, and they experimented by incorporating different musical styles into their songs, making them truly stand out. Their biggest hits are Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Who Are You, and Pinball Wizard.

8. Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin were an English band who are considered to be one of the most influential and innovative rock bands in history, and are described as "the heaviest band of all time". Blues and folk melodies are strongly present in their music, but Led Zeppelin are also said to be the ultimate progenitors of heavy metal. Their best-known songs are Immigrant Song, Stairway to Heaven, and Whole Lotta Love.

9. Van Halen

Van Halen is an American band, known best for their lead guitarist, Eddie Van Halen; unlike most bands, it was their lead singer that changed multiple times. Eddie pretty much "redefined what an electric guitar can do", using wildly innovative and creative techniques that put his band at the top of the rock scene. Their music is energetic and upbeat, helping to "restore hard rock to the forefront of the music scene". They are ranked 7th on on a list of the top 100 hard rock artists of all time. Their biggest hits are Jump, Runnin' with the Devil, and Panama.

10. Ramones

The Ramones were an American band who are said to be the most important band in punk history, and may or may not have invented the entire genre. They mixed multiple styles together in their music, and created something new and iconic, to be copied by a myriad of bands following them. All the band members adopted "Ramone" as their last name, though were not actually related (initial lineup: Joey, Dee Dee, Johnny, and Tommy Ramone). Spin ranked them as the second-greatest band of all time after the Beatles. Their best-known songs are Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Sedated, Baby, I Love You, and Sheena Is a Punk Rocker.

11. Sex Pistols

The Sex Pistols were an English band who were responsible for initiating the the punk movement in the UK. They were only together for about 2 years and didn't record a lot of songs, but they were still a huge influence on future punk and rock artists. Their style was raw, violent and revolutionary; in England they were considered a threat to the very fabric of society and were banned. They, like almost all the artists I've included in this article series, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; but the Pistols refused to attend the ceremony, calling the museum "a piss stain". Their biggest hits were God Save The Queen, Pretty Vacant, and Anarchy In The UK.

12. The Clash

The Clash were an English band who were also a very important group in the British punk rock wave. They mixed various elements of different musical styles into their songs, such as reggae, funk, and rock a billy. Their music is filled with political messages and powerful, distinctive vocals, with iconic songwriters and singers Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. The Clash were ranked # 28 on the Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Their biggest hits are Should I Stay or Should I Go, London Calling, and I Fought the Law.

I've gotten into the habit of giving pointers on which bands are the most essential of the essential, so this time I would highlight Nirvana, AC/DC, and Ramones.

That's all for today, I hope you liked the article and got inspired to listen to some really good music!❤

Love,

Hanna❤
