The Celtic Banshee might be one of my favorite creatures. The Banshee, Bean Sidhe or Ban Sith (meaning fairy woman) is a spirit harbinger of death. This woman wails as some is about to die, usually a family member or friend.

The Banshe is believed to either be in the form of a maiden, mother or crone and very often sticks to a family or a bloodline.

Sometimes the Banshee is seen washing the bloody clothes of the one who is about to die as an omen, and is then called "washer woman" (gaelic bean-nighe)

The Banshee can be found in very many different cultures, and with different names.
