We live in a world and society that forces us to constantly seek for its approval with everything we do. From the way we dress, to the way we speak, to our manners, our looks, our past. And this habit has been happening subconsciously without us even noticing.

Luckily for us, we have special groups in our lives, such as family and friends that give their truthful and honest opinion on those matters and whose approval matters the most to us. What happens though when we aren't enough to them either?

What happens when they question everything about you, from your clothes to the way you speak? What happens when suddenly you feel like every move you make, every word you speak will be a mistake?

They start criticizing much more than your outer looks but who you are as a person too. Your traits, habits, likes, opinions, beliefs. We can't always be accepted by everyone and opinions can contradict even between family and friends. But being made to feel less, to feel worthless, and numb. Feeling like you're a mistake, that you don't amount to anything and everything you do is wrong goes past that approval.

It turns into a negative force that makes you hate yourself for not being enough to the people who mean the most to you. You start to questions your beliefs and opinions, even change them so they will match those of your loved ones. And slowly the person, the character you have formed gets sucked up and pushed down inside you far away so it can't be seen.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how many people accept you but who loves you. It doesn't matter if you have a large friend group if they all wait to talk about you behind your back. There's no point in calling someone family if all they do is bring you down.

Loving yourself, being yourself, and believing in yourself is what will take you further in life. Is what will make you, you. Is what will distinct you from the rest of the world. Don't push your voice down, speak up and be brave. At the end of the day, loving ourselves is all that matters.

Till next time, Zoey xx
