What about the author, Jonathan Stroud? Well, I recently tried his writing routine and I have to say I like it! Here’s how my day went:

Stroud spends two thirds of his working year in his study, writing. Isn't that _____? Yup, I'll let you fill in the blank.

On a typical day, he arrives at his office at about 9:30am and leaves at about 5pm. This is pretty similar to my writing days, except that I tend to start writing earlier, at about 7am, and take a longer lunch break than he does.

We are both tea lovers, I found. But if you've read Lockwood & Co, I'm guessing that doesn't come as a surprise at all. What did surprise me was the fact that he prints the pages he writes as soon as he writes them (or on his lunch break/ before leaving the office). It's such a great way to avoid editing while drafting!! If only I had a printer, but I don't, so I skipped this step.

Oh, and the best part! Every day, he tries to write about 5 pages. Now, I don't know how he's formating his document, but a quick research lead me to believe 1 page is around 500 words and if that's the case, I... didn't get nearly as many words down. At the end of the day, I had 690 words, partly because I'm working on a new project and took a break to develop the characters.

By the end of the day, I was left feeling exhausted but so happy with my progress! Writing 9-to-5 is definitely something I can see myself doing long term, and I love that <3

If you're a writer, feel free to try his routine and let me know how it went!
