Hello everybody! Wow, it's been a long time since the last Glow Up Diaries episode came out! A lot has happened in the meantime so I'm going to get right into the article! The format is going to be a little different today.

Weekly Weigh-In

Weight: 122 lbs (55.3 kg)
Total Gain: +0.9 lbs
Next Week's Goal: 120 lbs (54.4 kg)

Unfortunately the last two weeks have been a fitness rollercoaster for me. I had been fasting and eating relatively clean and healthy and then I weighed myself and I was at 125 lbs. That's a gain of about 3 lbs which doesn't sound like much but it was the opposite of my expectations.

So what happened? Well, I gained weight most likely because I was eating a ton of sodium. When you eat a lot of salty food your body retains more water and you may appear to gain weight- this is called water weight.

The best way to get back to normal is to hydrate yourself and cut down on salty snacks (which I did). I'm back to my "normal" weight of 122 lbs. I'm very frustrated right now. I'm so close to 120 lbs and yet I feel like I'll never hit my goal weight. For almost three months I've been struggling to lose the last two pounds.

How I'm Feeling

Well, as you may have guessed from the title...I'm feeling pretty bad right now. As in, unmotivated and discouraged. After my weight gain I feel like I'll never get where I want to be. I'm also disappointed in my body. I feel like even though I've lost over 20 lbs I still look chunky.

Of course there's nothing wrong with that but I'm pretty down. I keep looking at people on Insta (don't do that!) and getting discouraged because no matter how hard I exercise, no matter how strong my legs and abs are, no matter how good I eat, I still look unfit.

How To Get Motivated

But how can I overcome this? Well, first, I like to find ways to make me feel motivated. Here's a few tips I like to try:

  • read inspiring fitness quotes
  • try out new workouts
  • listen to my favorite music while exercising
  • attempt a new recipe
  • use my comparison/jealousy to empower me

The last one is a little...toxic. You should try not to compare yourself to others (and you won't be happy with yourself if you do this) however with that being said I do believe that using that negative energy as positive energy to power through your workouts or eat clean is a good idea, as long as you keep your motives in check.

Push your limits. You won't get better or stronger if you keep doing the same easy moves. Figure out what your max is and fight to beat it.

Health:

Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze! And please wear a mask, wash your hands, social distance, and stay home as much as possible!

Diet:

Try swapping white breads with whole grains. Whole grains are tasty and work just as great as white breads while cutting down the starch.
