“I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.”

Hi everyone!
In today’s article I’ll talk about a book that I’ve read some months ago, when I still was in quarantine: “The song of Achilles”.
I saw it in some book recommendations on we heart it and as a book addicted and a Greek mythology lover, I was really curious about it and I had really great expectations. But was it a worth reading?
To be honest, when I started reading it I was a little bit skeptic, but believe me, every chapter is better than the previous one, and the last chapters are literally amazing. I was unable to put the book down.

The book follows the story of Achille and Patroclo, two Greek heroes who fought during the Troia’s war. In particular, it shows how their relationship changed through years and became stronger and stronger day by day. It shows how powerful love can be and how painful is losing it.

This book is really worth it also because it tells a very famous story in a different way: it doesn’t focus on war, honor and ‘good death’ like the version we learned at school, but it focuses on a love story that no one ever tells us.
It also gives us another point of view of what happened at Troia: in this book the one who narrates the events is Patroclo, someone who was essential during the war even though no one talks about him.

The book is also well written, I liked the writer’s simple style. Also the characters are well represented: I was afraid that the writer changed their characteristics but luckily she didn’t. While reading this book you will recognize Ulisse’s cunning, Achilles’ strong personality, Patroclo’s desire to help and Agamennone’s pride.
If you’re tired of the same point of view about Achilles and the Troia’s war or if you would like to read a great and different love story, you will love this amazing book.
