Hi everyone !

As a literature student, I had to read so many books at school...For the last 3 years, my teachers made me read 53 books which is, for me, quite a lot.

I always loved reading but, only books I wanted to read and not books teachers wanted me to read. The result of my literature student's years is that I no longer enjoy reading. Yeah... That's quite sad... Because I used to read a lot before.

So, now that these years are over, I started a "healing" process. My goal is to start reading again! And this is where Goodreads is important. Let me explain to you about my idea.

What is Goodreads?

"Goodreads is the world’s largest site for readers and book recommendations. Our mission is to help people find and share books they love. Goodreads launched in January 2007." - Goodreads' website

Goodreads is a website (and an app) where you can list your book, make reviews, keep track of your past reading, exchange with other readers, read reviews, and make friends.

There are more than 90 million members and reviews. Plus, there is a place on the website where you can search for quotes!

How can it improve your way of seeing books and literature?

Reading can be quite boring sometimes... And not everybody has a book club next to their house. That's why Goodreads is nice. You can interact with people who read the same book as you. You can see the whole bibliography of an author without having to search for their official website.

Also, there are quizzes, creative writing, events... Like who can say that reading is boring now?

My favorite feature

I like keeping track of things, have goals. So naturally, my favorite feature is the Reading Challenge! At the beginning of each year, you can put a number of books that you want to read. And the website automatically calculates how much you need to read by weeks. Isn't it amazing ?

As an example, my 2020 reading challenge is reading 55 books (It's half of the year and I accomplished 49% of my challenge!)

Words from the co-founder

" When I was in second grade, I discovered the Hardy Boys series. Ever since, I've loved to read — both for fun and to improve my mind. And I'm always looking for the next great book.
One afternoon while I was scanning a friend's bookshelf for ideas, it struck me: when I want to know what books to read, I'd rather turn to a friend than any random person or bestseller list.
So I decided to build a website – a place where I could see my friends' bookshelves and learn about what they thought of all their books. Elizabeth, my co-founder (and now my wife) wrote the site copy and I wrote the code. We started in my living room, motivated by the belief that there was a better way to discover and discuss good books, and that we could build it.
Goodreads is that site. It is a place where you can see what your friends are reading and vice versa. You can create "bookshelves" to organize what you've read (or want to read). You can comment on each other's reviews. You can find your next favorite book. And on this journey with your friends you can explore new territory, gather information, and expand your mind.
Knowledge is power, and power is best shared among readers. "
