The "quarantine blues' have affected many of us within these past few months. It can be extremely difficult to stay away from friends and family.

In the midst of this pandemic it is important that we take care of our mental health while isolating.

Here are a few things that has helped keep me sane in this lockdown:

1. JOURNALING

Writing in a diary is a great way of expressing yourself in a way that is safe and private. This is a space where you can be 100% honest and write about anything that is bothering you. You can write down your emotions from angry to ecstatic. This will also allow you to read previous diary entries and to see how much you've grown over time.

2. DRAWING & PAINTING

Drawing and painting are other forms of self expression without using words. Art is known to help calm people as well as occupy their minds to focus on their composition, hereby relieving stress.

3. READ

Reading books can help to stimulate your brain in a way that Television can't. Reading books can also increase your knowledge on certain topics and leave you feeling more educated.

4. LISTEN TO MUSIC

Music can change a person's state of mind in an instant. I love putting on my music when I'm doing college work, cooking or drawing.

5. WATCH DOCUMENTARIES

When I say documentaries, I mean empowering ones - not the serial killer ones. Netflix has a bunch of amazing documentaries that will motivate you.

6. COOK & BAKE

Cooking and baking is something that takes time and you get a sweet reward once your dish is ready!

7. FACETIME FRIENDS & FAMILY

Seeing and speaking to your friends (virtually) truly makes self-isolation just a tad easier! Talking to others and hearing how they experience everything can also help you cope.

8. MAKE A SPECIAL COFFEE

If you're anything like me, you will miss your daily Starbucks-run. I now use my coffee machine at home along with my barista Oat-Milk to test out different drinks.

9. TAKE A HOT BATH OR SHOWER

Hot water will make you feel calm and satisfied. Pour some oils in your bath and light a few candles for ambience. In this space, you can let go of everything that is troubling you.

10. SKINCARE

A face mask, moisturiser and a lip scrub can do wonders for your skin. Your skincare routine can leave you feeling fresh, relaxed and ready for a good night's sleep.

11. LOOK PRETTY, FEEL PRETTY

Feeling pretty can improve your day. Put on REAL clothes and do your hair & makeup, it will help you to be more productive.
