Hi lovelies, I hope you are doing well :)

Today I am sharing this article with you as a continuation of my self-awareness article, which if you would like to read is linked below.

I wrote 4 more of tips from me and one of my dear friends hoping they will help you with your self-healing journey. These exercises are mainly relaxation practices, but they will also help with self-awareness.

So, letโ€™s start relaxing!

1. Deep breathing

From the subheading I believe you know where I am going with this. You probably heard or read this so many times, but I assure you they can help if done consistently. This practice was actually suggested by my psychologist, and she recommended that when breathing we first must close our eyes and breath in through our noses to fill the lungs, then we hold the air for about 10-15 seconds, and after that we breath our slowly through our mouths (with gentle compressing on the lips) for the same amount of time.

Also, it is better to do deep breathing several times a day, even if you are not feeling anxious because doing so helps you to be aware of the moment, not to mention that this exercise sends messages to the brain and body to calm down.

2. Looking at birds

This tip is suggested by my friend. She recommends sitting down and looking at tiny sparrows or pigeons, or other types of birds outside or through the window if you need to relax and to distract yourself. She also said that watching birds give her a sense of peace and calmness, and I agree. I watched a mama bird feeding her kids for 5 minutes and I felt a positive happy energy inside me. I started thinking of all the beautiful things I can learn from this creature, like how motherโ€™s love and care is something that all living mothers feel, and like how eating a good meal can put a smile on your face all day long.

This is similar to what I mentioned in my self-awareness post, focusing on one thing at a time makes you aware of your feelings and surroundings. But of course, it does not have to birds, you can look for cute animal videos or feast your eyes on a painting, anything pleasant and relaxing, anything that can make you feel a little more positive.

3. Coloring

This is a method that I tried recently, and I have never been grateful this much for an activity. When quarantine first started, I experienced a deep level of frustration that I have never felt so I picked up an old coloring book and some coloring pencils and I colored away. I felt a sense of relaxation and the more I colored the more I felt happier, and I believe that it has to do with the different colors that filled the dull page. I finished the coloring book in a very short amount of time then I bought an adult coloring book because I read the psychology behind it and I gave it a go. Coloring the small details is really relaxing, and this is the psychological part, these kinds of books help practice mindfulness and decrease the level of stress. And they are helping me cope with the quarantine, therefore, I am especially recommending this exercise, it is a lighthearted practice that you can do at home.

4. Prayers

This is a spiritual religious exercise that I find very useful. It is similar to meditating, or maybe the same. I normally lay on my bed, close my eyes then pray, I pray God to help me be a better person and to always give me the best in life, and I picture all sorts of positive situations. This always help to lift my mood and to calm me down when I overthink about the future. I know that God has great plans for me so trusting him keeps me in ease, and also these prayers inspire me to always work hard toward whatever that is I want to achieve while putting my whole faith into God. Now I know that not everyone believes in the spiritual side, and if you are one of them then you still can do this exercise, you do not have to pray but just close your eyes and imagine positive scenarios and you will surely see a change in your mood and hopefully mentality. If you think about the positive, then you attract it.

I hope these practices help you with your healing journey.

Thank you for reading.

Until the next article,
sending your way prayers and warm hugs </3
