Hey loves!!

It's finally FRIDAY which means you might have some time this weekend to do some organizing & cleaning! Lately I've been focusing on slow fashion - which is getting clothing from thrift stores or just higher quality items that I'll have forever, instead of supporting fast fashion brands.

Since I'm a clothing buyer for vintage boutiques - I'm constantly cleaning out my closet to make room for amazing new vintage pieces!!

I've got it down to 3 easy steps.

STEP ONE:

๐“๐€๐Š๐„ ๐€๐‹๐‹ ๐˜๐Ž๐”๐‘ ๐‚๐‹๐Ž๐“๐‡๐ˆ๐๐† ๐Ž๐”๐“

If you have a lot of stuff, I would do this by category. I do all my jeans at once, then my long sleeve tops, going out tops, shorts, etc. Take everything you can think of out and lay it on your bed/floor so you can really visualize how much shit you really have!

STEP TWO:

Now it's time to see if everything fits. Sometimes, our clothing just doesn't fit the way you envision it or how you remember it fitting. I have a hard time letting go of items that are so cute and still in style - they just don't look good on my body.

This will help you figure out what styles and fit look good on you!

STEP THREE:

Go through everything and figure out what pile each item belongs in. Here are some guidelines to help you figure out what item goes in each pile!

๐˜›๐˜– ๐˜’๐˜Œ๐˜Œ๐˜— :

  • does it fit?
  • is It flattering?
  • can I see myself wearing it again?
  • have I worn it in the past year?
  • does it have sentimental value?
  • is it still in style?
  • if I saw it in a store today, would I still buy it?
  • can it be altered/fixed to make it more flattering?

If it meets the criteria to keep it, great. If not, decide if its something you can sell, donate or throw it away.

๐˜›๐˜– ๐˜š๐˜Œ๐˜“๐˜“ :

  • is it too small/big?
  • is it in good condition? (no stains, holes, missing buttons, broken zippers, etc)
  • has it been lightly worn?
  • is it a good brand/designer piece?
  • does it still have its tags on (and you haven't worn it in a year)

If the piece is a good brand and is still in style and in good condition, you should try selling it online (or on an app like poshmark, carousell, etc). Or take it to a local consignment or buy/sell store!

๐˜›๐˜– ๐˜‹๐˜–๐˜•๐˜ˆ๐˜›๐˜Œ :

  • is it too small/big, stretched out, unflattering or out of style?
  • are there any holes, stains, missing buttons, etc?
  • can it not be altered or fixed?

If the item is in decent condition but can't be altered or fixed (or you don't think its worth it) and its not a good brand, you should donate it.

๐˜›๐˜– ๐˜›๐˜๐˜™๐˜–๐˜ž ๐˜ˆ๐˜ž๐˜ˆ๐˜  :

  • is it discoloured? (armpit stains, food stains, weird colour from the wash, etc)
  • is it an undergarment? (unless its a sports bra or bra I've barely worn, I will throw out all underwear and bras)
  • does it have a hole or tear?

If you answered "yes" to any of these, the item should be thrown away. It's just taking up room in your closet/drawers.

Try cleaning out your closet this weekend! You can sell the clothes you don't wear to make money for Christmas presents, shopping, or to put towards your savings!
