Hey Hearters!

So it's story time...

As I said in my first article, I am a junior in high school. Therefore, I have to take a government class. I opted out of the AP option so I'm in a semester long government class right now. For one of our first assignments, we have to complete a civic engagement project.

*Civic Engagement: working to make a difference in the civic life of one's community and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes.

So for this assignment we had to choose a topic for our volunteering. We could choose between political, environmental, social, and more. I chose social and decided I wanted to help face the issue of world hunger.

On Wednesday, September 11th, I volunteered for the first time with Salvation Army's Project M.U.N.C.H. This project helps prepare and serve meals to people in the community that are unable to get food on their own.

Not going to lie, it was a crazy experience. I was there from 3:30 to 6. In that time we made the food, served it to 100+ families, and cleaned up. It was so crazy and life changing. I know that sounds stupid, but like seriously. I come from a really good family and I love volunteering because it provides me with a different experience on life. It was crazy to me how many kids were at Salvation Army for dinner.

Summary: Volunteer. It can change your life and someone else's.

Until next time,
