I've wanted to write this article for some time. These are some movies that really inspired me and shaped the aesthetic I want in life.

  • Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)

Quite possibly my favorite movie of all time, and it gets better each time I watch it. Very cute story about a painfully shy girl helping out those around her, becoming more comfortable with herself, and finding love. The soundtrack is also fantastic.
  • The Artist (2011)

Guys, this movie is so beautiful! I'm a huge fan of the 1920s and this movie is styled like a silent film. A popular silent film actor finds his career failing as Hollywood shifts to movies with sound, but his love interest and former co-star doesn't.
  • The Great Gatsby (2013)

Speaking of the 1920s! Gatsby is one of my favorite books and the movie captures its sad beauty really well. I haven't seen the 1974 version but maybe someday I'll give it a try. Also, the soundtrack is incredible and I recommend listening to it if you re-read the book!
  • Gilda (1946)

I watched this movie recently and it's just fantastic! It's gorgeous and dark and romantic - everything I love in movies! A con man is saved by a casino owner in Buenos Aires and decides to work for him. But he soon runs into problems with his boss's new wife, Gilda.

So these are just a few of my favorites. I know this list might seem a bit disjointed but they're all personally and artistically inspiring to me. Really I love vintage/historical films and French films...
If you have any suggestions for me, I'd love to hear them!
