When it comes to jeans, everyone has different preferences. But today I´m here to help you understand the basics of purchasing jeans.

1. Shape

I don´t mean the shape of the jeans, I mean the shape of you. Why does that sound creepy?
Anyway, the shape of your body determines how the jeans will look on you. There are a lot of different shapes and there is no way of categorizing body shapes. There´s just too many of us.
But, there are basics to everything, am I right?

These are just examples.

Honestly, I don´t like this picture of body shapes so I´m just going to link a youtube video that explains body shapes in a very good way:

Now, if we speak from the picture above, shapes 1, 3 and 4 usually look good in low rise jeans. Shape 2, 5, 6, and 7 usually look good in high wasted jeans. This is to balance out the body shape, but if that is not what you want, go for the opposite: 1, 3 and 4 - high wasted. 2, 5, 6 and 7 - low wasted.

I personally wear high wasted jeans because my figure is a little on the curvier side and I have a little meat on my bones. If I were to wear low wasted jeans, that would create a so-called "muffin top". "Muffin top" is not something that actually exists. It has nothing to do with you, but rather the jeans you wear. If you experience a "muffin top" it means that your jeans are either too tight or too low.

2. Visual illusion

Basically, darker colors make things look slimmer and lighter colors make things look bigger. So it all depends on what you want.

Some jeans, like the pair shown below, have different shades of color on different parts.

These will accent your curves since they have that light strip down the front.

3. Zipper all the way down, please!

This is a huge deal-breaker when it comes to jeans for me.

The first thing I look at when buying jeans is if they have a space between the end of the zipper and the crotch. Like below:

It may be hard to tell though.

When this happens, it will give you a "camel toe". And since there´s nothing there, the camel toe will be very obvious.

Now, this is what I like:

This is part of the reason why I buy vintage jeans. Every vintage pair I have seen all have the zipper all the way down.

4. The "ideal" butt

There is a thing for butts right now. I don´t know why but there is. Now, I´m not here to talk about how to make your ass look bigger in jeans because those tips and tricks are literally everywhere. I´m here to tell you how to make sure you get what you want.

These jeans have back pockets. Like most jeans do. But do you notice anything about these in particular?
The pockets are placed very much to the sides. This will make your ass look wider. If that´s what you want, then here you go!

And these? You will probably not notice it in this picture because this lady has a big butt, but did you notice how big the pockets are?
When the pockets are very big it will make your ass look smaller. And if that is what you want, you´re welcome!

These jeans have smaller pockets and they are placed a little closer to each other. This will give you the illusion of a round, full ass. I guess I am here to talk about how to make your ass look bigger after all.

(Fun side note: I literally searched for "jeans ass" to find these pictures)

These were all of my tips on how to find the perfect pair of jeans.
I hope this helped you in any way!

Have a nice jeans-hunt!
