You might be confused about what I'm trying to say, like, "okay, interesting advice but what does that even mean and why is it important?" let me explain...
The very first thing we need to do in order to achieve success is to define what we want and say no to everything that is not leading us closer to that... The decisions we make in our daily lives need to align with what we want in order for us to achieve that goal.
we need to know where we are going and stay on that path.

There is this basic principle that everyone who studies economics learns, it's called "trade-offs" and "opportunity costs". It's pretty much the first thing you learn when you take an economics class, what I found interesting about it is, that it is constantly happening in our daily lives. "opportunity cost" is that whenever we make a choice we always lose something, and that thing we loose is our opportunity cost. For example, let's say you have to make a choice between watching a TV show and writing an article. If you choose to watch a TV show instead you risk falling off your upload schedule, potential followers you could have gained, and potential benefit you could have brought to someone's life, that would be an opportunity cost of choosing to watch a TV show, by choosing to write an article you miss out on relaxation. How you make a decision between those two is a "tradeoff" you weigh the costs and benefits of both, and usually, look at your priorities.
In order to be more successful, you need to know what your priorities are. If I want to be a journalist one day and possibly write for well-known publishing like Vogue, it's more beneficial for me to choose to write an article.

But sometimes in the chaos of our daily lives, we tend to forget who we are and what we want. In high school, it feels like everything is constantly screaming at you all the different expectations "have a GPA of 4.0" "be popular" "get a boyfriend" "gent into a good college" "ace that test" "don't fail" "you need more friends"... It's easy to get lost, and think that those internal standards are what you actually want.

Last month I found myself walking along the beach at 5 am, after a sleepless night at the concert with my friends, or someone I thought was my friend and people I barely knew.
I dragged my tired feet along the shore, while the sun slowly rose on the horizon, painting everything magnificent shades of purple and pink. Purple flowers grew along the shore which was decorated by tiny clusters of white seashells, beaming back at me like star consolations from the infinite sea of blue sky.

I walked around looking for a perfect seashell like I was looking for my purpose in life.
Two of my "friends" were sitting on the shore watching the sea, it looked exactly like that scene from "the end of the ** world". They were sitting side by side, the guy in his floral blouse and the girl in her white one. I felt like there was a connection between them, the scene reminded me of "the end of the ** world, which reminded me of something I had been obsessed with chasing back then... love.
"...there was one thing about it and it was the scene unfolding in front of me looking exactly like the end of the f ing world and I thought that maybe our stories do mirror our favorite stories in a way so what was mine?..."

Things in quotes are parts of a diary entry I wrote at that moment.
I had been chasing it without even having thought if it what I actually want? or did it bring me closer to what I wanted in life? was it possible at the moment?
What I have always wanted was to climb to the top, to do something memorable so my name would stay for a long time in this world even after my death, I want everyone to know my name and to do something that will benefit many people, guide them, and possibly change their lives for the better. My end goal was not finding a boyfriend or a husband, it was to create, be known, and to do something for the people...

" As well as the sea slowly erasing the imperfect dents of past on its delicate shore maybe that's how life is, we pass, we leave an imprint, and then once we’ve walked our path the life erases our footsteps. Maybe some will be there for a while to inspire people to show them the direction to walk yet nothing is permanent and no footprints stay forever though some stay longer than others I want mine to be the longest and along the way I might drop some seashells and pick up new ones as well..."

I realized that what I was chasing at that moment was not bringing me any closer to what I actually wanted deep down. I got lost in the noise of everyday life to the point where I couldn't hear my own voice, until, everything grew quiet.
I was chasing a superficial high school relationship that usually is not a real connection, I was stuck trying to please people who didn't care, I was stuck gathering as many seashells as I could instead of picking up the ones that actually mattered. I listened to the voices all around me telling me that I should have as many friends as possible, while what I actually craved is a real human connection.
" I was searching for something more than happiness, something I couldn't describe, a feeling that is so special…"
" The scene was so beautiful I wanted to take pictures, but right then and there I didn’t feel like sharing something so sacred to me with people who didn’t matter this was not an Instagram moment this was my moment..."
"I would like to share this only with someone who actually gets it but so far the person was not next to me so it was just me and the seashells..."

It's easy to get lost in the noise, to get tricked into believing that what everyone else around you wants or says you should want, is exactly what you actually want. So what do we do?
I'm not telling you to go out to the seashore at 5 am, what I'm trying to say is that, in order to be successful and make decisions that constantly keep bringing us closer and closer to what we want, we need quiet moments once in a while. It can be meditation, or journaling, or just taking 10 minutes at least once in 2 weeks to asses what you're doing and if it aligns with what you want. Do you remember what you want? what is your dream? or what you're striving for? and do the decisions you're making right now get you closer to that? or are you running in a different direction wondering why you're unhappy and why you can't achieve your goals?
It's always good to take time to reflect and redirect yourself if you've fallen off the path. So I encourage you to take a moment and whing what it is that you want and are you using your decisions efficiently.

P.S. dream boards are also a good tool to keep you focused on what you want because you see your goals every day and that keeps your priorities intact. I probably did a horrible job at explaining this, but since school has started again, my schedule got a little hectic for the first week. I hope this was a good reminder for some of you guys, and now that everyone is going back to school, you can expect my next 4 articles (at least) to be study-related. Love you all so much. ♡♡♡
