I know this isn't a light and fun topic to talk about and that a lot of people avoid talking and thinking about it. As much as I understand that life can be hard and heavy and that is why majority of people don't want to see or read more bad news, I can't support it. I can't support that kind of behavior because it won't lead us to anything good, it's not productive, but rather destructive.

Life is about constant overcoming of challenges and problems that are thrown at us. We won't overcome them if we avoid them, only if we face them. It's the same with the environmental problems - or better said existential problems.

The purpose of this and the other article I wrote is not to scold or lecture people, but simply to raise awareness of consequences of our daily actions, actions we might not even realize to be bad, and to learn what we all can do to make our home, Earth, a better place.

Our reckless behavior has caused a lot of problems related to climate and the environment - deforestation (additional release of carbon into the atmosphere), desertification (caused by deforestation or by overexploitation of soil through human activity), water and air pollution (fossil fuels, oil spilling, plastic and other waste, artificial fertilizers, etc), overfishing, overproducing (at the end leaving too much waste for us to handle), destruction of many ecosystems, extinction of many animal and plant species, etc.

Now… You may ask yourselves: "What can we do?". Well, actually each one of us can do a lot - by making healthier habits and better, more thoughtful choices.

I've written about some habits that we can all try changing for better in this article

***I forgot to mention this very important thing in my previous article. I don't use air conditioner at all, although it is very hot right now where I live. The reason why I don't want to use air conditioner is because it is bad for the environment. The use of air conditioning is increasing pollution in the environment by releasing poisonous gases into the environment. These gases include the chlorofluorocarbons and hydro-chlorofluorocarbons. They have a negative impact on the environment as they are part of the greenhouse gases that trap heat and lead to depletion of the ozone layer. That is the reason why I rather endure the heat, in hope that it won't get worse in the future.

***Another thing that I've just remembered is that maybe instead of using plastic cotton swabs you could look for an alternative like cotton swabs made from paper. If you're using cotton swabs for your ears you should know they aren't actually good for you because they only push the dirt in your ear even deeper.

Since writing that article, I've made more research, I've gotten more involved and found out about even more ways we can all help:

Ecosia 🌳

Ecosia is an app which allows you to search the web (just like Google or Bing). Search ads generate income for Ecosia, which is later used to plant the trees in the places where they're most needed. They publish their monthly financial reports and tree planting receipts, to show they're not lying.

I've discovered this company a few days ago and for now I haven't found a reason not to like it 😊

Forest 🌲

Forest is an app that helps with productivity. It's helping you put down your phone and focus on what's more important in your life. Whenever you want to focus on your work, homework or a social gathering you set a timer during which you aren't allowed to use your phone. In the following time, the tree will grow, but if you leave the app, the tree will be killed. By staying focused you're helping plant real trees.

I've just started using this app a few hours ago, so I haven't got the time to get to know how exactly it works… but I like it so far.

Also, I've found this article on We Heart It that may be useful to you, it certainly was to me 😊

Get informed 💡

Yes! A great way to help is to get informed. Why? Because knowing how things function and what is happening around you is the best protection anyone can get. If you know a lot of things it is harder for people to manipulate you and use you.

In times like this, when all sorts of information are available to us (I know that there are a lot of poor people unable to get education and information, but there are also a lot of those who have easy access) we should use them.

Get involved ❗

By "Get involved", I want to say: "Be an active citizen". By getting informed you should be able to tell what is good and what is not. That way you can be better at judging the decisions that are made in your country and whether they are good in long-term. You can actively decide what you want your future to look like.

Nowadays there are too many people saying: "I'm not interested in politics.", or something similar. When I hear people say that I get really mad. How can they say something like that? I know that's not interesting to many people, but that's not the point of politics. Politics has a role in our everyday life, so if you're not happy with the way the things are in your country and you haven't done anything to change that, you don't have anyone else to blame but yourself.

You can also get involved by donating. This is probably the most direct way of helping, but not everyone can donate. That is entirely understandable, so if you are not able to donate it's okay :)

But for those that are able to donate, it would be very nice of you. There are many organizations like: Greenpeace, 4Ocean, Oceana, WWF, UNICEF...

Regarding the Amazon fire you can donate to organization called Earth Alliance. It is an organization co-chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio, Laurene Powell Jobs and Brian Sheth, which addresses the urgent threats to our planet's life support systems.

We MUST act now if we want to prevent this from happening again, if we want to have future...

Thank you for reading this article. I hope it didn't leave you in distress, but rather in a state of motivation 😊
Wish you all a wonderful day ✌🏼

*** I used some photos in this article that aren't mine, so if owner/s of photo/s are not okay with that, just send me a message and I'll remove them.

I've researched everything that I've written about in this article, but if I have maybe put some information that you know isn't right, be free to let me know :)
