Once you start school you will most likely get homework and won't really have time to spend dedicated to cleaning or tidying your space, to make it easier on yourself try going through your main areas (bedroom, bathroom, desk, anywhere you use daily) and get rid of anything you no longer use or will not be using this year.

Trust me school will be way easier if you actually bring a notebook and something to write with! Check if there are specific things your school requires and then go shopping and get anything you'll need for the upcoming school year - also think about how you want to write your notes, how you want to store files, etc.. since this will help you decide what your really need.

In the last part I mentioned getting your sleep schedule back on track which could technically be considered a part of this too but here the focus is more on deciding how long you need to get ready in the morning, how long you want to spend studying and doing homework, when that will be, what time you want to get ready for bed, etc.. - try to plan out what time you want / need to be doing certain things and start to block sections out of each day for each specific task. For example, maybe you want to start studying for only 2 hours a day (ex. 4:00pm to 6:00pm every weekday). Use this to measure how long you'll have for other activities and plan those out too. Doing this will make you less stressed and will allow you to have shorter but more productive blocks of time.

Every since I went completely cold turkey from social media I've realized how much time it takes up and actually how much it prevents productivity. To prep for a good school year I'd recommend doing a shorter social media ban (1-2 weeks) to get used to not using it constantly and hopefully it will also help to figure out what you truly want to use social media for (not just endless scrolling).

One thing I've learnt over my school years so far is that you need storage. Whether it's for photos of social events, friends, the textbook your too lazy to carry home, or you need the storage for files or specific apps you'll feel extremely satisfied after going through and deleting anything that is unused or unwanted off your phone.

Here are a few suggestions of how to clean up and update your phone:

  • Delete any unnecessary photos
  • Delete or Offload any apps you no longer use
  • Go through YouTube subscriptions and unsubscribe to anyone you no longer watch regularly
  • Categorize your music into playlists
  • Go through your Instagram follow list and unfollow accounts you no longer enjoy / need
  • Put your apps that you need into folders based on either category (ex. Socials, Games, School, etc..) or based on priority - always put your most used apps in the most accessible places
