hi everyone! with school starting back up for many people, including myself, I wanted to share some of my tips for dealing with anxiety and depression during the school year and how you can make your life easier from the first day. also I am not a professional, I am a junior in high school who just wants to help some fellow internet teens out. if you have any questions, comments,or requests feel free to message me! I also want to make it clear that my main experiences with mental illness are depression, anxiety, panic disorder, and mild trauma. these are all based off of personal experience.

INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO YOUR TEACHERS!!!

going up to your teachers and personally introducing yourself helps SO much. this lets them know that you care about their class and want to succeed!

INFORM YOUR TEACHERS OF ISSUES

tell. your. teachers. if you have mental health struggles or physical health issues and you are comfortable with opening up, DO IT. they will really respect you and appreciate you for telling them and most likely be more willing to help you out a little bit more.

reading is extremely helpful. its great for anxiety, increases knowledge, and expands vocabulary and memory.

DO NOT DO HOMEWORK IN BED!!!!!

IF YOU ARE GOING TO LISTEN TO ANYTHING FROM THIS ARTICLE IT SHOULD BE THIS. doing your homework in bed can go two ways; it will train your brain to think that your bed is a work space which will make it much harder to sleep and overtime worsen anxiety and depression OR it could prevent you from doing work at all because your bed is a place of rest so when your body is in bed your brain automatically thinks its time to relax. which will lead to procrastination and stress. go to a library, a panera, your desk, your kitchen table, literally anywhere but your bed!!!

SET GOALS FOR YOURSELF

setting goals for yourself will help you to push yourself out of a bad place to strive to reach for those goals. whether it be long term of short term goals it will give you motivation to not only complete a goals, but motivate you to keep going.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT PUSH YOURSELF TOO MUCH. know your limits. you are NOT alone and its never a bad thing to reach out for help. whether it be mental health help, personal life, academic wellness, never be afraid to ask for help or guidance.
