First things first: It's not going to be easy all the time and there are going to be times where you want to quit on the spot, but it's important how you power through those stages.
Your actions in those hard times are going to define your personality and your and other actions through your adult life.

Your first class

Your first class is going to be completely different than your highschool-classes. There are going to be up to 1100 other people with you in the lecture hall (it depends heavily on what you study) and you are going to feel overwhelmed. That's normal, everyone feels the same adrenaline rushing through them.

My top 5 tips for your (first) classes:

  • Come 20 minutes earlier and sit next to someone that is sitting alone
  • Talk to that someone, your anxiety is going to fade away quickly, everyone is as nervous as you are
  • go over all of your notes on the same day, if possible
  • have fun, don't overthink everything
  • just bring the essentials:

a pen, paper or a Laptop

You are not going to write a ton and your Professor is most likely just going to talk about the curriculum the whole time.

Making Friends

If you're not going to the same college as your friends you have to make new ones (if you like) and there are a few ways to do that, outside of Freshers-week.

  • If you are an extrovert and have no trouble speaking to other people I would recommend that you talk to everyone that seems nice in your classes or that lives in the same area as you do
  • If you are an introvert I would suggest that you go to groups specifically targeted for getting to know other Freshmans.

In my personal experience as a former introverted Person, I know how hard it is to even look at other people, but you can do it! I believe in you ๐Ÿ’œ
Remember: Most of the time nobody knows who you were before College, and you can be whoever you want to be.

Maintaining a healthy Lifestyle

A young adult should sleep 6-8 hours a night, but I know the beautiful feeling of procrastinating and how it is to pull 3 all-nighters in a row.

  • Sleep-try to sleep till your alarm goes off, even 30 mins. is better than none.
  • If you cannot sleep: Drink 2 or 3 Espressos in the Morning and a few throughout the day and do not take a nap, your whole Sleep is going to be sh*tty the next few weeks if you do(vicious cycle)!
  • Don't eat fast-food- it's too exhausting for your body to process.
  • Drink as much WATER as you can, your head is going to hurt otherwise

Try eating as healthy as you can: veggies, fruits, nutritious foods that are going to keep you full for hours and your stomach happy.
Cook with friends and make it fun and not a chore!

How you can avoid a hangover:

  • Eat food that really fills you up beforehand!
  • Start with Beverages with a low percentage and drink up, never down, e.g. Do not drink Beer after Wodka-you are going to puke!
  • Drink a lot of water before going to sleep

Dealing with negative emotions

Everyone has doubts sometimes. And they are really overwhelming, especially if you are homesick at the same time:

  • Talk to your Parents, Friends, and Counselors about how you are feeling. There is always somebody there for you!
  • It's okay if you have to take a week off for your mental health
  • Take a day in your week and make it your Selfcare-day, even when you just have 10 Minutes-use them!
  • Read, listen to some funky music or just look out the window, the important thing is: Relax
