So me and @nothinglefttobelievein (who is such a talented writer so you should definitely check her articles out) decided on doing a collab on a significant and, in fact, a very up to date topic - veganism and vegetarianism and why it is the change that our world needs right now.

I'm very sure that many people immediately get put off by these two topics without really having any reasons for it. To understand this reluctance and rejection that many people have there is a very helpful article by @nothinglefttobelievein which you can find here:

what most people think what it means to be a vegetarian:

  • Extremely restrictive caloric intake
  • Being hungry all the time
  • Having a very limited diet
  • Constantly feeling deprived
  • Eating a diet that does not have a proper amount of nutrients and vitamins due to the absence of meat and sometimes dairy products

These wrong assumptions lead to the opinion that vegetarianism is unhealthy and doesn't have any convincing benefits. But this article will explain why going vegetarian is not only healthy for you but also why it's helping the environment and, of course, billions of animals.

why everyone should go vegetarian:

1: The refusal of eating meat is reducing global poverty.

760 million tons of grain are fed to farmed animals every year, just so that the rich part of the globe can eat meat. That basically means that our pleasure is defined as more important than the survival of human lives.

1kg of beef feeds only 2.

2: Eating meat supports cruelty to animals.

So you want to stop using straws to save the fish but you don't want to stop eating fish to save the fish?

That's a fact you cannot deny. On today’s factory farms, animals are crammed by the thousands into filthy windowless sheds, wire cages, gestation crates, and other confinement systems. These animals will never raise families, root in the soil, build nests, or do anything else that is natural and important to them. They won’t even get to feel the warmth of the sun on their backs or breathe fresh air until the day they are loaded onto trucks bound for slaughter.
There is no humane way to kill a living being because no animal wants to get slaughtered.

3: Eating meat is reinforcing global warming and climate change.

The top 5 foods contributing to climate change are:

  • 1) Beef
  • 2) Lamb
  • 3) Butter
  • 4) Shellfish
  • 5) Cheese

Eating meat causes almost 40 percent more greenhouse-gas emissions than all the cars, trucks, and planes in the world combined because of methane which is produced with animal farming and the transport of animal products. So if you want to be more eco-friendly and fight climate change: A very crucial step is to avoid eating meat.

4: Eating meat is responsible for many diseases such as: Heart Disease, Cancer and Diabetes.

A vegetarian/vegan diet can unclog people's arteries and reverse heart disease as many doctors have found out. The best documentary I have watched about animal products affecting our health is What the Health on Netflix which I really recommend to you. Other helpful documentaries I recommend are Forks over Knives and Cowspiracy.

how to go vegetarian easily:

Now that you understood the benefits of going vegetarian you might ask yourself: How? Isn't it hard to start a fully different diet?
Actually, it's not hard at all! Here are some tips:

  • Transform your favourite dishes. Many dishes you already enjoy are adaptable to remove meat. Chances are, much of what you already eat could easily be made vegetarian.
  • Explore new foods. Try browsing in your local health food stores and farmers markets to see what new foods you can find. There's always something new to try.
  • Learn and research. Learn and read as much as possible about vegetarian health and foods. Knowledge is power.

And of course: be patient. It takes 66 days to fully get used to a habit. So remember that only your first two months may be hard.
