10 DAYS OF SELF CARE

You're busy with summer holidays, tired from work, stressed because you can't achieve what you want, mad because you're not getting along with everyone... In all the cases your body and mind need to rest, it is very important.

You'll be like well I don't have time to take care of myself or to rest, you'll try to convince yourself that you don't need to waste your time relaxing and concentrate more on your work or your social life, but it is all wrong. Both your body and mind need to rest, you may not feel it now but later you'll see the symptoms such as fatigue and bad mood.

If you're having a hard time at work, stressed because of studies, tired from going out a lot or even sad because you feel lonely, you should know that there is a solution to all this.

You can try a 10 days self care routine which I believe will make you feel better to face new challenges and succeed.
Even if you don't have time, you can always reserve a few minutes to take care of yourself.

DAY 1: WARM BATH/SHOWER

Take some time during the morning before going out or in the evening when you come back home. You can go for long relaxing baths or even a 5 min warm shower. It's not about the amount of time you spend under the water but more about the calmness and the relaxing feeling you give to your body.

DAY 2: MOVIE/TV SHOW

Reserving an hour or two to watch a movie or a TV show is also a nice way to escape from reality. Grab some snacks or your dinner, turn on your laptop or TV and open your Netflix or any app you use to watch movies.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Game of Thrones

DAY 3: COOK/BAKE

You don't need to be a chef to be able to make something in the kitchen. If you like cooking then it's perfect, you can look for a new recipe a try it out alone or with your family and if you don't consider yourself good you can still make something easy or even try to learn some techniques while you're at it. I'm sure you'll enjoy making something on your own because it's a feeling that makes you feel proud to be able to do something without the help of anyone.

DAY 4: EXERCISE

Exercising is something you must do everyday or at least 4/5 times a week. If you already go to the gym that's great, you can hit it in the morning before work or after in the evening. If you don't have time to go to the gym you can still try other exercises like walking or stretching at home.
The main goal is to keep your body healthy and in good shape. You should also know that exercising does not only affect your physical appearance but also your mental health. It's very beneficial to you because you will be motivated and have a good starter for your day.

DAY 5: READ

Another way to escape is to read. It can be a romantic novel, a fantasy saga or an inspirational book. Reading will not only help you forget the daily stress for a moment but it will also teach you plenty of things like vocabulary and new informations.
Just like exercising, reading is good for your mental health. It helps you develop your imaginations and continuously largen the world inside your mind.

Of course there are people who aren't into books, you can always read an article about something that passionates you or even check the news in the morning.

DAY 6: GO OUT

When I say go out I don't mean go out to work or to school but go somewhere else where you can forget your boss or your classmates. You can be alone, with family or with friends. Have a walk in a place you like, have a coffee or treat yourself to your favorite food. The fresh air and seeing new faces around will also ease your mind.

DAY 7: ORGANIZE YOUR ROOM

I know that most of you will be like nah I don't feel like it or I don't care about it but you should know that staying in an organized place makes your thoughts organized as well as your work.
Don't you feel the difference between waking up to a tidy place and waking up to the WWI? When it's all nice and clean you will start your day peacefully but when you stumble on your shoes and waste your time looking for your shirt under a mountain of clothes you know how bad your day is starting.
Once again, your mental health is envolved with the environment that surrounds you. Clean it and your mind will be at peace.

DAY 8: CALL/MEET SOMEONE YOU LOVE

It can be your best friend, a member of your family or a lover. The most important is that you share some time with the person or the people you feel the most comfortable with. Tell them about your day, about what's been bothering you or what's making you happy. It doesn't have to be a specific subject, just talk about anything that comes into your mind and in the end you'll feel a lightness in your heart.

DAY 9: GIVE YOURSELF SOME SPACE

Too much stressing and too much worrying about your work will only make you unhealthy and unhappy.
I know how important your job or your studies are but don't forget that you're more important than anything. You deserve to rest and breathe and have some alone time in order to relax your mind and body and be prepared to face new challenges.
Just prepare some tea or coffee, lay on your bed, open a book or close your eyes and think. Just a silent moment between you and yourself.
After this you'll feel rested and I'm sure you'd have even taken new decisions.

DAY 10: EMPTY YOUR HEART

We all have issues that are haunting us both physically and mentally. A lot of things are going on and we feel exhausted from giving our heart too much pain.
The best way to heal a damaged heart is to talk about it.

You don't know how important it is to empty your heart, talk about your problems, confess what's been bothering you for long. As long as you keep it inside it'll just consume you and attract sadness.

You should always talk no matter how painful and difficult it is because in the end you'll feel the weight drop and your heart come back to life.

Talk to a relative, a friend or even a therapist if you feel the need to, but please don't let it hurt you inside. Never stop thinking about yourself and always know that you are more important than anything.

Also, if you can't talk about it you can still write it down. Just let it out.

So, here are some examples on how you can take care of yourself. You can add a few more things depending on the things you like the most.

Don't forget how valuable you are and that the first person you need to please and make happy is you.
