I’ve been on a city trip to Prague with one of my friends for four days. The city was not what I expected because it was way better than that! Hope you enjoy my highlights of this trip to the Czech Republic’s capital city!

Visiting a concentration camp has always been on my to-do list, so when my friend and I saw the opportunity to do so we grabbed it. The experience was shocking and so interesting at the same time. Being from the Netherlands and how my country had a big role during the Second World War made it even more surreal. It gave me shivers and it was an exhausting trip both mentally and physically. However, it made me more aware of the world’s history. I recommend visiting this little city just an hour away from Prague because it has such a rich history and the place is beautiful right now.

I learned a lot about the Jews’ living conditions and the German propaganda which made me sad. But it is still a 10/10 recommendation because it will definitely grow your general knowledge about the Second World War. You can go on a tour for about 30 euros which include train tickets, a guide through the city, crematorium, morgue and you will visit a museum.

You will immediately notice when you are in the middle of Prague because you will be in a beautiful square with multiple little restaurants that offer authentic Czech food. On that square towards the Old Town of Prague, you will find a mesmerizing old clock. A little further down the road will lead you to Old Town which is stunning to walk through. Walking through the streets of Prague was an experience on itself.
The city will bring you towards the Charles’ Bridge. This is a beautiful bridge with an amazing view of the other side of Prague. Walking over the bridge is fascinating and many local people sell beautiful arts of the bridge and Prague in general.

Close to the Charles’ Bridge, there’s a John Lennon Wall. Since the 1980s it has been sprayed with John Lennon inspired text from the Beatles and it also includes opinions on political affairs. However, now it is just fun to walk by and maybe leave your mark on the wall and on the country itself. (You can write on it)

More cute places in Prague were the small islands on the river. Just like Paris and London Prague is built around a river called the Moldau. On the river, there are a few small islands that are kinda like parks where people chill and hang out. Especially Kampa Island is super cute and nice to visit!

After you’ve walked over the bridge, there’s a long, steep street that only goes up, up and up. It was a tough walk to the highest point but it was worth it. On top of the hill, you can find a beautiful cathedral, the building of the government and the changing of the guards of Prague. It was an experience to walk there because there were so many nice buildings. This is definitely something you have to see.

If you adore animals and you don’t mind to walk up the hill and down again for those cuties, this zoo would be amazing for you. It’s one of the best zoos in Europe and maybe even in the world. A big zoo where you can spend hours watching animals and there are even feeding sessions that are made public. The zoo is huge and the variety of animals is huge as well. Some might be more hidden than others but when you have sharp eyes you will see most of them. There goes a bus to the Zoo for like 2 euros. The zoo is on a hill/mountain so put on your best walking shoes!

I hope you will give Prague a chance after this article! I would definitely recommend this beautiful city because it has exceeded my expectations. It feels more like a South or West European country. So modern and full of history at the same time! However, I can say that you won’t need more than 3 or 4 days to fully explore this city. Have a great summer and keep on smilin’!

Lots of Love,

Delaina
