some time ago i posted an article about the worst acne triggers and this list contained...

โœ˜ milk
โœ˜ soda
โœ˜ cola
โœ˜ coffee
โœ˜ cocktails
โœ˜ actually all alcoholic beverages
โœ˜ bottled juices

read the detailed reasons why and how this stuff damages your skin here (it's totally worth reading it i promise ^^)

so some of you might be thinking "damn how am i supposed to enjoy life if all the tasty drinks are forbidden?"

but don't worry, i got you! ;)

the obvious number one:

water, drink, and cool image

๐Ÿ’ง ๐”€๐“ช๐“ฝ๐“ฎ๐“ป - without gas but with a high content of magnesium, which is one of the most important minerals to fight acne:

usually tap water should be fine but this depends on the country your living in. i live in germany and my tap water quality is so dope that i would never ever buy water in plastic bottles that have to be shipped over a long distance... not good for the environment ya know ;)
one of my first articles on whi was about detox water, basically i just tell you to add some stuff like lemon or ginger slices but maybe you still wanna check it out:

for all the coffee lovers:

as cow milk and coffein are both heavy acne triggers, it makes totally sense to replace your starbucks latte with a way healthier alternative that's even beneficial for your skin:

  • fairtrade + organic decaf beans
  • one (medjool) date
  • a spoonful of almond butter - put it in a blender with the date
this creates a vibrant coffee taste with lovely caramel and creamy almond flavour.

๐“ช๐“ต๐“ถ๐“ธ๐“ท๐“ญ ๐“ซ๐“พ๐“ฝ๐“ฝ๐“ฎ๐“ป : rich in protein, magnesium, fibre, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, vitamin E, potassium and zinc

๐“ญ๐“ช๐“ฝ๐“ฎ๐“ผ : high amounts of vitamin C and D that improve skin elasticity, anti-aging benefits and they prevent the accumulation of melanin

๐“ฌ๐“ธ๐“ฏ๐“ฏ๐“ฎ๐“ฎ : as it is the largest sources of antioxidants in the average western diet, (the stem rising up from a cup of coffee contains as much antioxidants as three oranges!), you probably shouldn't quit your beloved coffee altogether.
instead, get some ๐“ญ๐“ฎ๐“ฌ๐“ช๐“ฏ to elude the negative effects coffein can have on your skin and still keep the antioxidative anti-ageing properties :)

"๐“ฑ๐“ฒ ๐“ฌ๐“ฑ๐“ช๐“ฒ"

  • decaf coffee - preferably freshly grinded fairtrade beans
  • a dash of your favourite plant milk - except for soy as it contributes to acne
  • maple syrup or honey - even though honey isn't officially vegan, it's good for you and the environment if you support organic bee farms ;)
  • as much cinnamon as you like - cinnamon keeps your blood sugar stable so any potential damage of our sweetener gets diminished ;)
  • ginger - either grounded or some fresh slices
  • cacao - another wonderful spice that combines health benefits with the taste of chocolate <3
chai is originally made with black tea but as i love the taste of coffee, i just make my own version of this super beneficial drink. it's not a superfood, it's a superdrink! ;)

this green powder is an especially powerful version of green tea and has 137 times more antioxidants than regular green tea. it provides a lovely variety of vitamins like vitamin E and the B vitamins as well as minerals like selenium and chromium. and my favourite benefit: it provides a long-lasting energy boost without making me jittery or nervous.

  • a cup of hot water (175F or 80ยฐC)
  • one tablespoon (or less) of organic matcha powder
  • blend a date and your favourite nuts (i usually use pistachios) until it's a smooth mixture
  • add some warming spices like like cinnamon, cacao, ginger or black pepper
this hot cup of lovely flavours is perfect to lift your mood during the cold winter time as well as support your immune system :)

"๐“ฒ๐“ฌ๐”‚ ๐“ต๐“ธ๐“ฟ๐“ฎ"

  • a cup of cool water - not too cold yet, that makes it harder to mix
  • one teaspoon of organic matcha
  • some fresh mint leaves (spearmint or moroccan mint)
  • some slices of ginger or a dash of ginger juice
  • some slices of lemon or lime or a bit of their juice
  • a hint of maple syrup or honey
  • some ice cubes
a really chill drink to sip next to the pool. also a nice "wake-up" drink to enjoy while studying.

let's talk about the less tasty ingredients first:
spinach and kale - super nutrient dense and really good for detoxing your system. but i just really dislike the taste of kale so i'm not gonna torture myself with it lol ^^

in order to create a healthy lifestyle you enjoy and are willing to keep up for a long time,

healthy eating (or drinking) should make you feel great, especially mentally and emotionally.

anyway, there might be some people out there who do love kale, so here's a basic recipe for a nice detox smoothie:

drink, healthy, and food image

"๐“ฑ๐“ช๐“ฒ๐“ต ๐“ด๐“ช๐“ต๐“ฎ"

  • as much kale as you like (about a cup i guess)
  • one cup of plant milk (almond or oat is nice)
  • one banana (the riper, the better)
  • a cube of ginger (at least as big as a sugar cube)
  • fruits of your choice (skin superfruits: pineapple, mango, strawberries...)
green smoothies as well as smoothies or freshly pressed juices in general provide an instant energy boost so they're a great start for the day. smoothies shouldn't be your only meals for the day though, as fructose can be hard on the liver and you shouldn't underestimate the amount of regular sugar that fruits contain. basically what i'm saying is, juices are cool but only drinking blended fruits is actually quite unhealthy.

i'm a huge fan of green smoothies nevertheless, i've been drinking a big glass of blended greens and fruits almost every day for the last months, so i have a lot to say about detox smoothies.
i certainly need to make a whole article dedicated to this topic soon, so stay tuned to read about...

  • how to make greens taste good in a smoothie
  • a list of unusual beneficial ingredients like spirulina, wheat grass or hemp powder
  • my crazy recipes for purple and black smoothies
  • the most detoxifying ingredients i highly recommend
green, fruit, and food image

now, let's continue with... ๐“ฝ๐“ฎ๐“ช๐“ผ! ๐Ÿต๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒฟ

(i'm also planning on a detailed article to explain the exact benefits of different teas for your skin and all you need to know surrounding that topic, so today i will only show you two recipes out of the many, many i've been loving ^^)

tea, healthy, and mint image

against hormonal acne: "๐“ฌ๐“ต๐“ฎ๐“ช๐“ท๐“ผ๐“ฒ๐“ท๐“ฐ ๐“ถ๐“ฒ๐“ท๐“ฝ"

  • a cup of boiling water
  • there are many kinds of mint, so look for spearmint or moroccan mint - fresh leaves would work
  • some slices of ginger (unless you dislike the taste)
  • if the taste of mint is too boring for you, add some hibiscus or rooibos as these are also good for your skin
these two kinds of mint have hormone balancing effects and can therefore help with hormonal acne. on top of that they taste really nice :)
organic tea and masala chai image

anti-aging: "๐“ถ๐”‚ ๐“ฌ๐“ฑ๐“ช๐“ฒ"

  • a cup of hot water obviously (about 90ยฐC i guess)
  • milky oolong tea (very tasty) or white tea
  • a dash of plant milk
  • as much cinnamon as you like
  • whole cloves (take them out before drinking)
  • grounded cardamom
  • some vanilla extract
  • a tiny bit of sweetener like honey or maple syrup
the original masala (spice) chai (tea) is made with black tea, but black tea isn't the most beneficial kinds of tea (e.g. it stains your teeth) so i usually use tastier and healthier teas :)

i hope you're going to try some of these recipes and if you do, let me know if you liked it and which one was your favourite! :3

you all deserve glowing skin that radiates as beautiful as your soul!
so take good care of your body and your mind.
