Hello! I saw this tag and thought "I love anime and love procrastinating" and realised it was perfect. This is also perfect for you, if you want to learn about a random otaku's anime experience, for some reason.

Before I continue, I must give credit.

This article was inspired by this article:

Okay, let's go! ~ (^-^)

1 - What is your favourite anime?

I cannot choose only one, but I will only include ones I consider my absolute favourites.

Haibane Renmei, Clannad, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Psycho-Pass, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Parasyte, Durarara!! and Death Note.

2 - Has an anime ever made you cry?

Anime is the medium which has made me cry the most, so I've cried at more anime than this, however here are the anime that have left me the most emotionally scarred. (Masochists, I have your back.)

3 - Which anime made you laugh the hardest?

Only two comedy anime have put me in complete hysterics on a regular basis throughout the show. The first is one I watched when I was 15, the other when I was 18. I may not experience the first one in the same way if I re-watched it now, but I am sure there are other people out there who have the same humour as 15 year old me and will love it as much as I did.

4 - If you could make a spin-off of any anime, what would it be?

It would be Steins;Gate, and a slice-of-life romance which centers on Ruka. It will explore her gender dysphoria and the feelings she has for a man she is growing closer to. By the end of the show, she would have found the bravery to come out to her friends and family and is in a relationship with the love interest, who accepts and supports her wholeheartedly. (Basically, what Ruka deserves.)

5 - List your top 5 anime.

Welp. Here's my attempt.

1) Neon Genesis Evangelion
2) Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (including Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai)
3) Clannad (including Clannad After Story)
4) Death Note
5) Durarara!! (and the rest of its many sequels)

I based this rating on my attempt to grade its quality as a show, as opposed to relying just on my enjoyment of it.

6 - List your top 5 anime OSTs.

1) Zankyou no Terror Soundtrack, composed by Yoko Kanno aka The Music Goddess. Listen to it. Doesn't matter if you've never watched the anime. Just listen to it. It's a masterpiece. (Though don't read the YouTube comments because there are major spoilers.) Also, the opening and ending songs are produced by Kanno as well, and are just as worth listening to.

2) Haibane Renmei. I have yet to hear another soundtrack like this. It has a wonderful blend of relaxing and cozy classical pieces and beautiful yet unnerving choir tracks. The opening song is a good example of the former, and the ending song an example of the latter, even if they not composed by the main composer Otani Kow. This is a soundtrack which has the anime's individuality perfectly expressed.

3) Clannad & Clannad After Story Soundtrack. The music is magical in itself, but it is a whole other experience listening to the soundtrack after watching the anime, because it is utilized so well within the show. Every piece is interwoven with an emotional aspect of the anime, and you will relive that emotion whether you want to or not. (And given that it's Clannad, most of the time you will not.) Watch Clannad and you will understand. And Dango Daikazoku, man. DANGO DAIKAZOKU.

4) Guilty Crown Soundtrack. Sawano Hiroyuki, ryo, Supercell, and the birth of Egoist. What more can I say?

5) Kimi no Na Wa Soundtrack. RADWIMPS. Just RADWIMPS.

7 - Have you ever watched an entire anime in one sitting?

No. My bladder is too weak for that.

8 - Who is your favourite anime character?

9 - Name an anime character you absolutely hate.

touka, tokyo ghoul, and kaneki image
Kirishima Touka from Tokyo Ghoul

I know I shouldn't hate her. There are other, much more despicable anime characters out there, and she's not even inherently that bad. However, it's not Touka - it's me. The way she treated Kaneki when she first met him reminded me too much of someone I needed support from in real life who let me down, so I took her attitude personally. Ever since then, I cannot help but have her fill me most with rage out of all characters in anime. (Though, I must point out, thankfully I actually like manga Touka. It's just the anime adapatation of her that I have beef with.)

10 - What is your favourite "moe" anime?

This is legitimately the cutest thing I have ever seen. I want to say more but I have yet to express how cute it is using more than incoherent squealing.

We all saw it coming.

12 - What is your favourite romance anime?

While Clannad is a romance and it is my favourite out of the romances I have watched, it is not my favourite romance for being a romance, if you get what I mean? I love Clannad for all its aspects, but I have watched another anime that I believe to have done the romance genre, personally, even better. Thus, here is my favourite romance anime which I have enjoyed the most as a romance.

13 - What is your favourite comedy anime?

Sorry for the repetition, but the question asks what the question asks, and Asobi Aosbase is indeed the Comedy Queen of Anime.

14 - What is your favourite action anime?

Rating an anime as an action, I choose this one. I remember being near-constantly thrilled by it.

15 - What is your favourite harem anime?

As a harem, it's defintely this one. It's the only harem I have watched where I have shipped every girl with the protaganist, even if I have a personal favourite. It made me actually genuinely invested and angsty over his decision. Also, every girl is waifu material. It's perfect.

17 - What is the first anime you ever saw?

If we're including stuff before I knew what anime was, then it was Pokemon, like nearly everyone else. If we're including films, then it was The Cat Returns, which I caught one afternoon on TV when I was 10. (Which I loved.) If we're including unfinished anime, then it was Tokyo Mew Mew - the first anime show I watched knowing what anime was when my otaku friend showed it to me when I was 11. If we mean the first anime series I watched completely, while understanding what anime was, then it would be Clannad, which my (other) otaku friend showed to me when I was 13.

18 - What is the most times you've re-watched an anime?

I don't re-watch anime, since I know I won't be able to experience it exactly the same way I did when I first watched it. I feel, because I know what will happen, the emotion will be less potent. I don't want the less potent second-viewing emotions to be muddled with the more potent first-viewing emotions. I'd rather hold on to the memories I have and not risk changing them, even if means I'll miss the show sorely.

19 - Name one anime you wish everyone would watch.

Everyone has different tastes, so I'm not one to try and say that everyone will love one particular anime. However, if I had to force everyone to sit down and watch one, it might have to be Mob Psycho 100. It offers a neglected perspective on an important topic, among other amazing messages centered on character growth.

20 - What is an anime you regret watching?

Boy, I wish I had less to choose from. Though, I believe that the one I regret watching the most is Junjou Romantica. No disrespect to any Junjou fans, but it literally was the most painful anime experience of my life. I didn't just dislike it, I hated it. So why did I watch it, you may ask? Basically, I chose to do a school project on how Japan views the LGBT+ community. A part of that was to reference how gay people are presented in media, and a representation of gay people exclusive to Japan was yaoi and yuri anime, so I decided to choose a popular yaoi to analyse (aka Junjou Romantica.) Thus, despite my pain, I forced myself to finish the whole season, having to pay attention to every excruciating detail. Again, I respect the opinions of people who like it, but it just very much wasn't my cup of tea. (One could argue that I shouldn't regret watching it because it helped get my grade, but sometimes I wonder whether even my education was worth so much suffering.)

21 - Which anime character are you most like?

There a few characters which, throughout the years, I found myself connecting to for various reasons. So I don't divulge a whole bunch of personal information, and bore you to death with several character study essays interwoven with self psychoanalysis, I won't explain the reasons why. (And yes, once again I cannot choose only one. Personalities have many facets, okay?)

22 - Do you watch a new anime because you will think it will be good, or because it is popular?

I base it on whether I think I will like it or not. However, I must admit that if lots of people are raving about one, that will spike my interest and sometimes persuade me to check out an anime I had originally dismissed based on the plot. However, anime which look better on the surface will always take priority even in these situations.

23 - Has an anime's fanbase ever made you hesitant to watch an anime?

No. I don't interact with anime fanbases so they are pretty irrelevant to me. In fact, this article is probably the most online interaction about anime I have had.

24 - How many anime episodes is ideal for you?

It ultimately depends on the pacing of the anime, but based on experience, I tend to enjoy a series with 20 - 25 episodes the most. I feel it allows for the breadth I desire from a show without it dragging and resorting to unnecessary filler.

25 - Have you ever watched an anime with over 23 episodes?

26 - Would you ever watch an anime with over 100 episodes?

No. And I admire and respect the people who do.

27 - Have you ever dropped an anime, and if so, why?

I'll keep it brief. All of these anime I dropped simply because I found them boring, except Netsuzou TRap, which I found both boring and insufferable. How can a show make you hate so many characters at once? (Also, I was not in support of the route Red Data Girl was taking in the protagonist falling for her childhood bully, who still treated her badly...though it was mostly because it was boring.)

28 - In your opinion, what makes a good anime?

What makes art good is still a debatable question. It depends on what you view art's purpose to be. Different perspectives include evoking emotion, expressing or alluding to an idea or aspect of the world, its ability to produce entertainment, escapism, or its subjectivity in itself. I'm not going to go into all that because this is an anime tag, not a philosophy thesis. However, personally, I consider the best art, and thus the best anime, to be the things that fulfill all these expectations, since it can provide for any reason you want to go to it, and continue satisfying you no matter how you or mood changes. Anything that does even one of these 'art aspects' well, though, is considered 'good' in my book, even if I personally have a soft spot for intellectual stimulation and escapism.

29 - Name a popular anime you love.

My Hero Academia

30 - Name a popular anime you hate.

So, based on MyAnimeList, this is the most popular anime I hate. I don't know anyone else, other than the person who introduced it to me, who has watched this show, so I'm taking MyAnimeList's word for it.

31 - Is there an anime you wish was more popular?

No one knows of this yet it is absolutely delightful. It is the most underrated anime I know.

32 - Thoughts on live-action adaptation?

They tend not to work because it's hard to translate over the aspects unique to the anime medium. I feel they will improve if live-action doesn't attempt to do this, but capitalize on the aspects unique to live-action film instead so it is less clumsy, though staying true to the source material story-wise.

33 - Your favourite straight couple?

Their love is a portrayal of how it should be.

34 - Your favourite non-straight couple?

This couple isn't from an anime, but from a manga. I don't care about the anime adaptation of this couple, but the manga version is the best fictional couple I have ever had the privilege to witness. I cannot stress enough how much I love their relationship. (I love Isla & Tsukasa sooooo much, but Nezumi & Shion are just on another level. The depth and complexity of their relationship blows all other couples out of the water.)

41 - What are your favourite anime quotes?

Believe it or not, this is actually the shortened version of my original list.

"It's better to be hurt than to hurt others. Nice people can be happy with just that." – Kaneki Ken, Tokyo Ghoul

“If you were to write a story with me in the lead role, it would certainly be… a tragedy.” – Kaneki Ken, Tokyo Ghoul

“Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy.” – Yui Ikari, Neon Genesis Evangelion

"Are you afraid you will lose your identity if others leave you?" - Ayanami Rei, Neon Genesis Evangelion

"Nobody can ever understand you. The only one who can take care of you and understand you is you, yourself. So you must take care of yourself." - Neon Genesis Evangelion

"To recognise one's own sin is to have no sin. It's the riddle of the 'Circle of Sin'." - Haibane Renmei

"You can change fate as long as you believe you can." - Furude Rika, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni

(I don't even believe in fate in the traditional sense, but at the time I heard this I interpreted 'fate' as your brain's deterministic, often pessimistic, perspective on the world and yourself. A qoute as simple as this reminded me that I ultimately held the most power to change what I saw as 'fate'. It helped a lot.)

“I cant cry anymore. I feel like I’ve lost something. An important part of being human.” – Izumi Shinichi, Parasyte

“If you have the right to live, so do we. Granted, I believe rights are a concept unique to the human species.” – Migi, Parasyte

“If you feel like crying you should not hold back your tears. You should let it all out while you still can – because when you get bigger sometimes you can’t cry even if you have something to cry about.” – Tomoya Okazaki, Clannad After Story

"Isn’t it fine as long as you find the next fun and happy moments again?" - Tomoya Okazaki, Clannad

“The only way to truly escape the mundane is for you to constantly be evolving. Whether you choose to aim high, or aim low. Enjoy each day for what it is.” – Izaya Orihara, Durarara!!

“There’s no one who can live their whole life being completely uncorrupted.” – Izaya Orihara, Durarara!!

“I don’t believe in god. There’s no proof he exists. In a world where there isn’t even proof of the future, the past exists. Even if it’s tainted with misunderstandings and delusions, if the people themselves believe in it, the past is the truth to them. And, if you base your actions or your life around it, in a way, it’s a type of god itself.” – Izaya Orihara, Durarara!!

“Reality is such a pain. And for those of us who get fed up with that kind of reality, we simply choose to make a new one. We create little walls, and separate the trash from the stuff we like, and when that’s all done we keep the things we care about and kick the rest to the curb. You’d be amazed how well it works! A whole world made out of just moe, tsundere, and BL, it’s the best discovery ever! If you ask me, that really is the best way to separate reality, from fiction.” – Erika Karisawa, Durarara!!

"Should not all intelligent individuals be given equal rights? That is what I read in the book of the gods. It is the core principle of democracy." - Squaler, Shinsekai Yori

Right, that's the end of my article, I suppose. If you've read all this, then thank-you, and I hope you enjoyed the experience. I hope you have a wonderful day and that your journey with anime is a positive one, like my own. Bye! ~ (^_^)
