Hi guys! My name is Janine, I am 23 years old and I am from Munich, Germany. My dad is a pilot and my mom a stewardess, so I basically grew up traveling. When I finished high school, I knew I wanted to see more of the world and I started working in small jobs to save up for my upcoming trips. At one point I started sharing photos and videos of my travel adventures on my Instagram (@joliejanine) and Youtube channel (joliejanine) for fun. I never expected this to turn into a job, but after 1-2 years it became my full time profession. Apart from traveling I am also passionate about fashion & mindfulness. My motto: Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

K WE’RE OBSESSED with Clifton Crew and we need all the deets! What was the process like creating your own clothing line?

Creating my own clothing line was a lot more challenging than I expected it to be. I had a clear vision of the pieces I wanted to sell, thus the design process was pretty straight forward. However, since I wanted all the pieces to be fair trade and amazing quality, finding the right producer was quite tough. I encountered so many challenges and road bumps along the way that I didn’t see coming. So far it’s been amazing and rewarding learning process that has thought me so much.

What inspired CC? Was creating your own clothing line something you always dreamt of? If not, can you describe what led you to this point?

I don’t think I ever saw myself having my own clothing brand. After school I even considered studying medicine for a while. Every year I spend a few months in Cape Town, South Africa and I absolutely fell in love with that city. For me it is more than just a place- it’s a feeling. I quickly realized that I wasn’t the only person that felt this way. A lot of people I knew were even getting tattoos of Table Mountain to show their love for Cape Town. I asked myself: “Why was their no clothing brand that embodied this cool Cape Town lifestyle?”. This is how the idea behind Clifton Crew was born. (Note: Clifton is one of the most popular beaches in Cape Town)

We have a TON of fashion lovers on We Heart It. Any advice for someone who may be interested in doing what you do?

There are 3 things that are crucial in this industry: passion, ambition and curiosity. Without passion you will find not motivation to work independently and to get out of bed every morning. You will need to be very ambitious, because there are millions of people who want to work with fashion/social media and you will need to have grit to make it. The last one: curiosity is probably the most important one. Our world is changing so fast due to all the technological advancements, so you always need to be on your toes: explore new ideas and try new things. Old ways will have you fall behind and diving into new challenges will keep you excited.

Running a clothing line, your Instagram business AND traveling the world (btw your travel pictures are #GOALS) sounds like to manage. How do you do it?

Running my own brand, managing my Instagram and traveling is super fun, but it can be exhausting at times. Oftentimes it seems as if you have this huge mountain of work in front of you, which is why I try to approach everything day by day. In the morning I ask myself: What is the most important thing I need to get done today? Finishing which task is going to make me feel to most satisfied?
Also, ironically switching off and taking a break usually helps the most and gives me a huge creativity + productivity boost.

We Heart It is a place where users go everyday to find inspiration. What inspires you?

My main source of inspiration is traveling. Meeting new people and discovering beautiful places is so refreshing. Traveling takes you out of your comfort zone and makes you look at the world in a different way than you usually would. I am also greatly inspired by other people. Other women that that have a unique style, a strong sense of purpose and inspiring mindset are my role models. It is great to have a platform like We Hear It that has so much inspiring imagery in one place.
