Problem or Opportunity

The first step towards positive change is awareness. It’s important to acknowledge the problem, but it’s more important to focus on the solution.

You can avoid any deeper suffering by choosing to focus on solutions rather than problems. In other words, you can consciously cultivate a positive attitude and turn yourself from a pessimist to an optimist. This is one of the most life-changing decisions you could possibly make!

  • Person number 1, let’s call him Dave, gets fired from his job that he didn’t like very much in the first place. Even though he hated his job, losing it makes him panic. What is he going to do now? How is he going to pay the bills? How is he going to find a new job in this horrible economy? Dave looks at everything negative about his situation, and so he suffers tremendously. Of course, things will get better, but he is too pessimistic to see that right away.
  • Person number 2, let’s call him Gary, loses his job too, but he doesn’t panic. He realizes that action, but he sees that as a good thing. I mean, he didn’t like his job to begin with, so this is the perfect opportunity to find one he actually enjoys. The economy might be bad, but Gary knows that he has plenty of skills that will allow him to get hired somewhere else. He is optimistic, and it pays off. Gary now makes much more money and is much more satisfied with his life. Getting fired was a blessing, but only because he chose to see it that way.

So, what happened to Dave? He ended up settling for a position that paid him the same salary as his old job.

I hope this illustrates the importance of having a positive attitude and focusing on solutions rather than problems. I don’t expect you to switch your mindset overnight. I know it takes times to change your attitude, but it should be a top priority of yours.
