I've decided to start a series called "wellness Wednesday" where I post articles every Wednesday talking about ways of improving your mental health - because I know for sure that there are people out there that are struggling to stay sane and to find ways to escape from their misery.

This is why I've decided that every Wednesday I will try to offer help to anyone on We Heart It that is feeling sad and worthless.

Today's article will show you self-care tips that will help you boost your mood and make you feel valuable.

Don't let negative thoughts control your mind; replace those dark thoughts with self-love affirmations.

Positive affirmations have the overwhelming benefits of making you feel motivated, liberated and energized. Post little sticky notes of uplifting words in your room. Say these words out loud to yourself every morning to brighten your day. I know that it may feel silly talking to yourself out loud but it helps train your subconscious mind to feel more positively about yourself.

find a fun productive hobby

Sometimes when things just don't seem to be working out, its best to escape into your own world by doing a fun productive hobby. Make sure that your productive hobby doesn't make you feel like you're being forced to do your homework; choose a hobby that is entertaining and one that teaches you something useful at the same time. For instance, If you love writing, go on We Heart It and start typing articles - they can be poems, stories etc - and share it with the world. The process of planning and composing your article will take your mind off your worries and will help battle your stress.This will refine your writing skills, and in the process, improve your self-esteem. You will come to realize that you are talented and amazing.

Try new things, learn how to play an instrument; learn how to edit photos like a pro; learn how to draw; learn how to start a successful blog - you never know what miraculous things can happen, you might end up discovering your passion.

If your crush keeps playing mind games with you and making you feel desperate for him - delete his number! a guy that really wants you won't play you like a violin - a real guy will treat you like a Queen. You deserve so much better.

While social media has made communication a billion times better- it does have its downside, as well. Social media can be a really toxic place especially when you compare your life with someone else's "perfect" life. I'm sure we've all felt that way before; you scroll through instagram and everyone's life seems to be "better" than yours. If there's anyone on social media that you follow that makes you feel depressed, just unfollow them. You should follow people that motivate you instead.

This tip has helped me out so many times; a couple of days ago, I was feeling so overwhelmed with sadness that I decided to lock myself in my room, curl up under my sheets and just cry out all the sadness that was bottled up inside of my head. After I released all my pent up emotions, I felt 10 x better and this helped me start to move on from what was bothering me.

Cleanse your soul with a cry session, its so healthy for your mind. Crying is a great way to release your stress. Don't keep it inside, you might end up piling up more, and more unreleased stress - and you will lose your mind.

There's nothing better than a nice hot shower after a hectic day. Research shows that hot showers stimulate your senses to boost the levels of feel good hormones called Oxycontin.

Take a shower with amazing shower gels with orgasmic fragrances because did you know that a smell can perk up your mood? beautiful scents will make you feel great about yourself.

If you wear clothes that highlight your best features - you will notice your self-esteem skyrocket instantly. In my experience, whenever I put on my favourite bold lipstick - and wear my best clothes that show off the parts of my body that I'm most proud of - I feel so good about myself.

Remember to make an effort to look good - because when you look good, you feel good!

If you're not getting enough sleep, you won't be at your best. You will suffer from tension headaches, concentrating will be hard, and you will feel easily agitated.

Try your best to get adequate amount of sleep to improve your memory, sharpen your attention, and lower your stress.

In this social media age, its easy to stay in the house all day, mindlessly scrolling through your phone. Don't get too consumed in the online world - there's a greater world out there to explore. Go out and take a walk; get your blood pumping, your endorphins flowing and move your body and legs. A short stroll will clear your mind and allow you to enjoy nature.
