Hello there!

I talked about the concept of a weekend reset routine in one of my past articles and many of you showed interest in it and wanted me to share what this routine is about. So that's exactly what I'm going to be doing today! I decided to post this on Saturday instead of Sunday so that you could actually give it a try this weekend if you felt like this routine would be helpful for you!

Basically, this routine is all about the things I do during the weekend in order to start each week feeling refreshed and motivated to work. As I don't have classes or work during the weekend, I have 100% power over every single minute of the day, which is not the case during the week. So, by following this routine each weekend, I ensure that I won't be overwhelmed by the amount of work and little hours available during the actual week!

Stay tuned till the end of this article as I have one announcement to make! But now, let's just get started with this article!

Get clear

The first step in this routine is to get your mind and space clear, so that you can start your weekend with a fresh mind and space!

Inbox zero

... meaning, getting through every email and replying to them, sorting your spam emails, etc. I would suggest deleting everything that is not relevant anymore in order to have your inbox as clear as possible.

For example, if I was working on a banner for my job and I have different emails about it but I have already designed and sent the banner to my boss, those emails are not necessary anymore, so even when they were relevant a few days ago, they are not relevant now, so they can leave my inbox.

Clean the notes on my phone

I use the notes app on my phone when I'm out and about and I need to write something down. Maybe an idea came to me while I was on the bus on my way to university or someone simply recommended me a song to listen to or a movie to watch and I wrote it down there. Whatever the case may be, going through all the notes and sorting them out is important. Being there on your phone makes no sense as they will get lost in every other note you have there, so go through them and transfer them to where they need to be.

For example, I keep different folders on my browser for all the recommendations. I have a folder with songs or albums, another one with movies, etc. So if I happen to have the time, I can go through those folders with all the links ready for me to access the content directly (so it's not just me going through a list of song names, but a list of youtube links that I can click, listen to and delete the link afterward).

Clear your desktop and downloads

If you work mostly on your computer, you know how crazy this can get during a busy week. Your desktop should be as empty as it can be, as it is literally the first thing you will see when you sit down to work again.

I personally have a folder for each class I'm taking at university, one for my job and one for We Heart It and that's it. All the actual projects or pictures are inside those folders. I still have easy access to them, but they are not everywhere, cluttering my desktop.

Bonus tip: make your background image something inspiring! It could be a quote or a vision board you created for yourself! But as I just mentioned, your desktop is the first thing you see when you sit down to work, so make it something that actually motivates you to start working!

Empty your backpack/bag

The other day my brother was looking for something in his backpack and he randomly pulled out a paper, laughed and said "this is from last semester" and to be honest, I was really shocked at his comment! I seriously clean out my backpack every single week, so there's no way that could happen to me! If there's any loose paper, put it back where it should be, if there's loose change, put it back in your wallet.

I'm guilty of keeping gum wrap on my bag as of course, I won't throw it on the floor! haha but it's not a big deal because I know that next week they won't be there, because I will take the time during the weekend to empty my backpack and sort everything out!

Tidy up your workspace/environment

The biggest tip I can give you is to not let things pile up. I understand that we don't have the time to deep clean our bedroom every day but there's no excuse when it comes to putting things away. Do it as you finish using them and, in any case, take 10 minutes right before going to sleep to put everything back to its place. So then during your weekend reset routine, you can clean your room, change your sheets and all that, but everything will be already in its place!

Update your agenda/planner/calendar

No matter what planning method you use, being a digital planner, a bullet journal or an agenda, it should be always up to date. I'm talking about school-related events but also personal! Maybe you are going to the movies with a friend on Wednesday night, or your class this week changed the time it starts... make sure your calendar is always up to date with every aspect of your life!

Write it all down

Create a to-do list for the weekend and divide your life into different sections. Each of them will be filled with a running to-do list. Here's what my sections look like to give you an idea:

  • University: I write down everything I need to do for each class I'm taking, using a different color pen for each one
  • Work: I design the graphic work for a beauty store, so I have different pieces that I need to get done for it
  • We Heart It: it could be brainstorming article ideas, writing articles for my account or for the Writers Team, working on a collab, looking up pictures to post, etc
  • Personal: everything from watching a movie that was recommended to me to painting my nails and cleaning my room

Schedule your tasks

We have to be realistic here... yes, ideally we would want to get everything we need to do during the weekend but also have time to rest, and sleep in because c'mon, it is the weekend after all. So when you start scheduling what you are going to do on Saturday and what on Sunday keep in mind how much time you want to invest in working and how much time into relaxing.

I don't have classes on Friday so my weekend reset routine starts on that day. I try to make my Fridays and Saturdays really busy and try to get as many things done as possible so that Sundays are like my day off if you know what I mean, when I can watch a movie, paint my nails, etc.

Find what works best for you and don't try to follow someone else's routine word by word. Don't overload yourself with an irrealistic schedule! I would suggest making the running to-do list in sections like I mentioned, so that you have an idea of everything you need to get done, but then be realistic when you actually start scheduling those tasks and start to set a time and day for each of them. Prioritize and of course take into account due dates. Your school list could be super long, but if you have a class on Monday and the other one on Tuesday... then you already know which tasks you should get around to first!

Now onto the announcement

... get ready for everything that's coming on December!

  • To celebrate the holiday season, I decided that I will be posting articles three times a week during December, the days being Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays!
  • I have been already planning out my articles and some collabs but, if you have any requests for articles, let me know, and I will write that article and feature your account in it!
  • If you happen to create a collection all about Christmas/ the holiday season, feel free to share it with me via postcard, as I will be giving a shoutout to one collection in each article I post during the whole month of December!
  • I will give my account a makeover, to make it more festive. Not only my profile picture and cover image but also the pictures I will be posting. The will still match my current feed but they will be Christmas/winter related. I will be going back to the content I usually post once December is over, so if you followed me because you liked my theme, don't worry, it is not gone forever!

That's it for today's article! I know it is in the longer side but I hope you still enjoyed it and try some of this steps yourself! Is there anything else you do during your weekend to prepare for the following week?

Back in September I wrote an article about Sunday habits that will make you kick start your week, and another article in October on how to maintain that productivity during the whole week! If you are intersted and want more motivation, here they are!

As always, feel free to message me if you want to leave a suggestion for my future articles or simply if you just wanna talk to someone ♡

Thank you for taking your time to read this, love you
