We spend most of our lives thinking of only ourselves without meaning to. One of the parts of being human is being selfish. We always want more, no matter how much we have. Wanting new things in life is how we move on and go forward without looking back.

But, it’s important to think about the things we already have that make us who we are because appreciating them means you won’t take them for granted and risk losing them. These things are hard to see when you have them, but you’ll definitely notice if they’re gone. Things like your parents who have loved you since before you were born with no hesitation, a best friend who’s always there for you, a house that provides a roof over your head to protect you from the thunderstorms, feasts of delicious foods that keep you energetic and alive so you can experience each day, water that’s cold for you to drink and hot for you to shower, opportunities like being able to go to school and being able to read this article right now, the fact that you’re healthy with all your limbs intact, and your life where with every that goes by you grow to be a better version of yourself.

We have lots of things to be thankful for, but we spend so much time hung up on the things we don’t have that we tend to overlook what we do have.

We have these aspects of our lives maybe by chance, because we’re lucky, or we earned it from a past life. No matter the reason, we need to appreciate them at least on this one day of the year if not everyday.
