Winnie

I'm a human going to a school full of different species. My bet is I'll be the only human there. Humans aren't supposed to be attending Hawthorne, but my family made some arrangements. Honestly, I would like to be with my cousins. I don't want to got to a human school and make new friends. I'd like to stay close with them. It doesn't bother me that they're not human. Being away from my dad will be difficult. I promised to call him whenever I get the chance. He's dropping me off today. Mom had other plans. And by dropping me off, I mean dropping me off at a train station three hours away and then taking the train six hours north.

"Don't forget to call if you need anything. I'll miss you," my dad said, after parking the car right outside the station. My heart was silently breaking. I have attachment issues. "I will. I love you," I told him, reaching over to hug him. He hugged me back tightly. "Be safe. I'm sure your cousins will look out for you too," he said. "I'll call you when I get there," I told him and then forced myself to get out of the car. I walked up the steps and my life was about to change.

I sat on the bench waiting for my train to arrive. I wiped away a few tears. I was happy no one was around to see me cry. Then I heard someone call my name. I looked up and Rhett was walking over to me.

"Hey stranger," he smiled. "Hi...what are you doing here?" I asked. He looked grown. Like he was 30! Puberty hit him hard. Maybe it's because he's a vampire. He'll probably look this way for the rest of his life. I'll age like a human. He took a seat next to me. "Your dad wanted me to meet you and I said hell yeah...well I didn't say hell yeah to him I don't think he would've liked that, but I happily agreed," he explained. I laughed. "How are you?" I asked. "Good..hungry...hoping they have blood packets stocked at this school," he said. "They should. What are the roommate arrangements?" I asked. "I'm with Timothee. You're with Kinsley and Dixie, Devon and Emerson, Monroe and Marley, and when we get there we might get a third roommate. Well, some of us," he explained. "At least we'll be roomed with people we know," I said. Our train pulled up.

I spent most of the time reading and looking out the window. Rhett was asleep on my shoulder. I was happy to have him with me. Even happier that he didn't mind being with me.

We passed through spring and autumn, and arrived at winter. I was in awe.

When the train pulled into the station, Rhett woke up from his nap. "Ready?" he asked with a sleepy smile. I nodded.
