Society says, "No pain, no gain",
And that statement will be forever true,
For in pain we gain our wisdom,
But gain a change in our image, too.
Everyone strives to make pain seem healthy,
By stating they'll make it out alive,
But how can that be valid,
When a piece of us always dies?
The world tells us it's okay to feel,
It's fine to pass our feelings along,
But once we try to bestow our emotion,
We are always shunned upon.
For pain is never a brief occurrence,
It dismally lingers in our lives forever,
It changes how we're perceived,
How we're recognized; how we're remembered.
For those reasons and even more,
Pain has been a subject of taboo,
So can any of us express how we actually feel,
Or do we always have to be untrue?
