I want to be the gum wrapper
That you kept folding into triangles
I want to shrink and shrink
Until I disappear
However, I was the gum you kept
chewing and chewing until I was flavorless
and you discarded me under tabletops
You'd whip out a new piece of gum
Savor the sweet as it lasts
Until it fades once more
No more room under tabletops
Not a single unrotten tooth
Hung from infected gums
Like stalactites of an old cave
Like a cave you are hollow
And echoing endlessly
Despite this
You reach out for fresh gum
With eager hands
