Hello, my gorgeous, beautiful people! I am back with another article! And a fun fact actually; IT'S BEEN ONE YEAR SINCE I UPLOADED MY FIRST ARTICLE! If you want to check it out, here you go:

Anyway... let's get into my article!

There is one recurring theme throughout all of these Asian dramas: romance. No matter what main genre it is, there will always be a little romance involved. If you don't want romance, I am sorry. For this article, I will be doing top three dramas from Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand!

Korean Dramas

1. Goblin (2016-2017)

If you are into fantasy, and romance Goblin is the drama for you. At first, I didn't believe I would like it, for the fact that its fantasy. However, that thought quickly went away as soon as I began to watch it.

The drama is a "fantasy tale between a goblin who needs a mortal bride to ends his immortal life, an amnesiac grim reaper who stays together with the goblin to oversees the passing souls, and a human woman who suddenly appears claimed to be the goblin's bride, who actually destined to be killed." (https://wiki.d-addicts.com/Goblin)

2. Cheese In the Trap (2016)

I am not going to lie, this drama is something else. No matter how many dramas I watch, and no matter how good they are, this one never leaves the list. Unlike Goblin, this drama is based off a webtoon (you can actually read it on Line Webtoon' for the English version) and while this was being filmed and while it debuted, the webtoon was still ongoing, so the ending in the drama is different than the drama wanted it.

"Cheese in the Trap depicts the delicate relationship between female university student Hong Seol (Kim Go-Eun) and her senior Yoo Jung (Park Hae-Jin). Hong-Seol works part-time due to her family's poor background. Yoo Jung is good looking, gets good grades, athletic and has a kind personality, but he has a dark side." In fact, since the drama had great ratings, they made a movie that came out this year. The only actor they kept was Park Hae-Jin who played her senior Yoo Jung.

3. My ID: Gangnam Beauty (2018)

Like Cheese in the Trap, this drama also came from a webtoon (however, it is not with 'Line Webtoon'). The drama and the webtoon are very similar, but they changed a few things here and there in the drama.

_"Kang Mi-Rae had a timid personality due to her ugly appearance. She was teased by people and even bullied when she attended school. Now, Kang Mi-Rae is beautiful after undergoing plastic surgery, but she still has her timid personality. Kang Mi-Rae starts her first year at a university. People are still mean to her and call her "Gangnam Beauty" in a derogatory manner. Meanwhile, Do Kyung-Seok attends the same university. He does not judge people by their appearance. He cares about what's on the inside rather than outside. Do Kyung-Seok begins to like Kang Mi-Rae." _ (asianwiki.com/ID:_Gangnam_Beauty)

I actually really like this drama because it talks about self-confidence and how much it is effected in today's society. I feel like it's a show that we could learn from.

There are other amazing dramas (some are just now airing, that is why I have not included them) that I have not added. But, I could do runner-ups! They will not be in any particular order~

Runner-Ups: Scarlet Heart: Ryeo (2016) (fantasy, historical, romance); Descendants of the Sun (2016) (melodrama); Scent of A Woman (2009) (melodrama, romance)

If you'd like me to talk about the runner-ups for each country, let me know!

Chinese Dramas

To be completely honest, this country isn't that hard to choose from. It's not because they aren't good, but it's because there are a few that stand out the most.

1. With You (2015)

This drama mind boggles me that it's not that popular! Everyone talks about "A Love So Beautiful" (second on the list), but this is the O.G. The two are very similar, but I feel like this one more authentic. It doesn't fall in the same routine with the typical drama romance.

"When Geng Geng enters Zhen Hua High School, she is seated next to top student Yu Huai. While she's struggling with homework and exams, she suddenly also gets a new mom and younger brother. After entering Zhen Hua High School, however, her lonely life comes to an end. With new friends on her side, especially Yu Huai, she lives through the three years till graduation. Suddenly after graduation, the boy she came to like disappears. When she meets Yu Huai again, will she choose the love she could never forget or will she choose Lu Xing He who pursued her all these years?" (https://mydramalist.com/16987-with-you)

2. A Love So Beautiful (2017)

I'm going to be fair about this: it's great! But it can't compete against "With You" in my opinion. But hey, that's why you're here, to discover and choose for yourself.

The twenty-four episode show, "A Love So Beautiful" "Starts off with high school classmates Chen Xiao Xi and Jiang Chen who are also neighbors. Xiao Xi, a cheerful girl who doesn't study much, is expressive about her admiration towards Jiang Chen, the popular guy known for his looks and high grades. Together with their fellow classmates the funny Lu Yang, athletic but loyal Jingjing, and cool swimming team member Wu Bo Song, they embark on high school life to university until their adult life." If you watch "With You" first or vice versa, you will for sure enjoy the other drama.

3. Meteor Garden (2018)

If you haven't noticed, all of these Chinese dramas have been pretty recent. However, this drama is a little different. This is a remake of the 2001 version. To sum it up, if you ever watched "Boys Over Flowers" (2009) or "Hana Yori Dango" (2005), then you know what you're getting yourself into.

"Shan Cai is an 18-year-old girl from a family that's barely able to make ends meet. Due to a turn of events, she gets accepted into a school that only accepts the upper-class elites. She immediately clashes with her classmates especially Dao Ming Si who is spoiled, arrogant and a bully. She remains defiant even after becoming a target of a series of pranks intended to torment her and just when she's about to give up, Hua Ze Lei always seems to show up to lend her a helping hand. Eventually, the four boys begin to acknowledge Shan Cai's unyielding personality that is like her namesake which is that of a weed that can never be brought down. She also begins to see the good in the boys, which paves the way for friendship and an eventual romance."

Here are is a notable runner-up: My Girlfriend's Boyfriend (2017) (sci-fi, fantasy, romance)

Japanese Dramas

Between all the Asian dramas, Japanese dramas are the least I watch. I tend to watch Japanese movies, but there are some special cases.

1. Signal (2018)

This is a remake of the original that came from South Korea. I watched both, and they are both really good. However, I feel the acting in this one is a bit better than the Korean version.

"Two detectives communicate through a walkie-talkie to solve a cold case. One detective exists in the present day and the other detective exists 15 years in the past." (http://asianwiki.com/Signal_Japanese_Drama)

I couldn't find the drama poster / it is not on any official drama site

2. Switched (2018)

This a Netflix original and might I say: it's pretty good. If you're down to get pissed off at characters, this one is for you.

"High schooler Ayumi's perfect world evaporates when her envious classmate Zenko somehow steals her body, her boyfriend and her life. (https://www.netflix.com/searchq=switched&jbv=80230018&jbp=0&jbr=)

3. Good Morning Call (2017)

This is the only drama that I have so far put down that has two seasons. This drama will get you hooked with the second lead(s). It's filled with awkward, second-hand embarrassment, but cute moments too.

"A high school girl finally gets her own apartment, but she has to share it with the most popular boy in school. No one can know they're living together." (https://www.netflix.com/title/80092878)

Taiwanese Dramas

Okay, okay, LET. ME. TELL. I freaking love Taiwanese dramas, especially the movies (but that's for another time if you'd like). So, I am excited to share this with you all!

1. Fall In Love With Me (2014)

With this, I really like it because it's funny at how she doesn't recognize him. It's like Super Man; when he puts glasses on, you can't tell it's him(apparently).

"The head of a struggling ad agency finds herself torn between a hotshot executive and a kind stranger-- not realizing they're the same person." (https://www.netflix.com/search?q=fall%20in%20love%20with%20me&jbv=80111650&jbp=0&jbr=0)

2. Refresh Man (2016)

If you haven't noticed, this drama has the same actor in the previous drama as the main character. That's how you know the acting is really good if I have him twice on the list.

"Ten years after a once-promising student graduates, she finds herself working at a cosmetics company run by the boy with the worst grades in school." (https://www.netflix.com/search?q=refresh%20man&jbv=80134078&jbp=0&jbr=0)

3. When I see You Again (2015)

There really isn't much for me to say about this one except that it's a nice drama!

"On a visit to his hometown, a rich bachelor seeks revenge on the woman who broke his heart 10 years ago. But his plan doesn't go as expected." (https://www.netflix.com/search?q=When%20I%20see%20&jbv=80111845&jbp=0&jbr=0)

Finally, but not least. . . .

Thai Dramas

So like Japan, I don't really watch Thai dramas. But on occasion I do, and when I do, they tend to be interesting.

1. Full House (2014)

Full House started out as a Korean drama back in 2004 and then later had a second season in 2012. largely to the fact that it became so popular across Asia, it was bound for a remake to happen. Thus, the Thai version was born.

"Aom is a writer who got swindled out of her house during her trip to Korea. She finds out that her house was sold to Mike and in an attempt to get her possessions back, she enters a contract marriage with Mike for one year. Though she lost everything, Aom remains optimistic and takes things in a strike. What started out as a business relationship between the two becomes personal as they start to care for each other." 2. Kiss Me (2015)

If you loved the first one, then you'll surely love this drama, too! They are the same actors from the previous drama I mentioned, and their chemistry is no joke! If you've seen Playful Kiss, then you will definitely enjoy this!

There are four different remakes from the original that took place in Japan. Four of them are dramas and one is a movie. Some of which are from different countries.

"Taliw, a cute, lively and clumsy girl, has had a crush on a popular and genius named Tenten, who is a new student with an IQ of 200. Tenten just returned from Japan with his family. How will Taliw deal with her feelings towards Tenten? Sometimes, he treats her kindly and cares about her. Yet, sometimes he teases and embarrasses her in front of all the students in their school." 3. U-Prince Series (2016)

Okay, so this may be a little confusing since it has the word "seres" in the name. To sum it up:

"The new grand campaign called the U-Prince introduces 12 heart-throbbing male ambassadors from each university and 12 lucky girls are chosen to date them. There are 12 separate stories, each their own arc." (http://drama.wikia.com/wiki/U-Prince_Series)

If you don't like one story, you could always go to the next. My favorite is the "Ugly Ducking" season. But it's all up to you.

To watch the shows you'll most likely have to search it up and really look for it.
