Hi! So I’m trying right now to describe some of Scarlet’s past and her relationships that affected her. I’m sorry if it seems sort of weirdly worded or the placing is off- I promise more of Alec will be revealed. I hope it doesn’t seem like I’m throwing some random guy in without explanation. Don’t forget to message me with comments, advice, etcetera. Also, feel free to message me if you see errors and I will quickly fix them. Thanks and enjoy!~

Carter and I walked back to the house together. We talked some, but it was mainly comfortable silence.

“Glad to see you are back.” I heard Kade say as we arrived outside the house. He was leaning against the wall of the house, smoking a cigarette with a cheeky grin on his face. Smug asshole.

“I found her walking back. There were no issues.” Carter spoke firmly. When he talked to Kade like this, he sounded different. They were friends but it was clear who was in charge. When I took a step back and looked at Carter like this, I could see the admiration he had for Kade. I desperately wanted to know about how they met and both of their stories.

“Knew she would. You can go inside Carter. Thanks for getting her back safely.” Kade nodded towards him and he swiftly walked inside.

“Why did you come back? You were gone long enough, you could have made good distance.” Kade said as we took a drag from his cigarette. I walked towards him, each step making a loud noise as I walked over the fallen leaves.

I shrugged as I stopped in front of him. I watched as he dropped his cigarette and snuffed it out.” I realized I didn’t have anywhere else to go.” My eyelashes dropped as I looked at the ground. Kade took his hand and used it to move my chin where his eyes met mine.

“You seemed like the family type to me.”

I shook my head slowly as his eyes flowed into mine. I felt so tired, all I wanted to do was lay down and sleep. My feet and legs ached from all the walking.

“M-my grandmother kicked me out before I was taken. I miss my little brother but he is seventeen so he still lives at home. I don’t have any friends, none that would be close enough to take me in.” Tears welled up in my eyes and I tried to hold the sob that was making its way out of my mouth.

Without warning his arms wrapped around me in a cold embrace. I placed my head against his chest and cried softly.

“Hey shhh. Shh, Scar. It’s okay. You are safe. This is your home. I know I’ve been hard on you, but we do enjoy your company. Even Carter gets a kick out of your fire and passion.”

His voice was a calming whisper and I breathed heavily, trying to calm down. I was okay. I wanted to give in and let him in, but a part of me said it was wrong. I wasn’t supposed to trust vampires, especially one like Kade, but it felt so right. I hated their kind for what they did to me and how they sold humans, but he seemed different. Even with his dark aura I wanted to see the good in him. I was seeing the good in him.

I broke from his embrace and sat down on the group where he followed suit. I rested my head on his shoulder and he placed an arm around me.

“Can I ask you something?” I said quietly.

“Of course. What is it?”

“You seem good. But how is that so? I mean, you are nice to me and all and say you bought me for a purpose, but why were you at the auction in the first place? I want to believe you are a good person but then I think about the fact that you were buying a person like property.” I poured out my thoughts and he remained quiet.

“I‘m a vampire, Scarlet. It’s our nature. My kind buy people and use them for our benefit.” I could tell there was something off in the way he spoke.

“You’re lying. Or at least you aren’t telling me something.”

“Leave it be. Let’s go inside, you must be cold.” He stood up but I grabbed his hand.

“No! Tell me please. You haven’t bought other slaves.”

He ripped his hand away from me and sighed. “And how would you know? You think those who work here do so willingly?Just accept I am a monster.” Kade hissed at me and turned away. I could not accept it. I wanted him and I wanted to know he was good.

“No. Why is the real reason you bought me?”

Kade turned towards me and his eyes were completely dark. I backed away slowly sensing his anger.

“You want to know why I was there huh? Too fucking bad. Don’t forget your place. Come inside. Now.” He grabbed my hand and started to drag me after him, but I stood my ground.

“Tell me. Please.” I pleased and he turned to look at me. I was suddenly slammed against the wall. My heart hurt and I yelped in pain.

“You want to know? Fine. Witchy had a vision that a slayer would be at the auction. A slayer of a particular bloodline I have interest in. I wanted to protect you from what the others would do to you. I owed her that.” He spat at me, trying to sound harsh and angry, but I saw pain in his eyes.

“Oh.” I whispered, hiding a smile. He wanted to protect me. I wanted to push him for more information about this slayer but I knew that was for another time.

“You aren’t learning more about my past. Not now. Just know a long time ago a slayer, your ancestor, helped me and I told her I would protect her blood. That doesn’t mean I won’t do with you what I please.” Kade shook his head and let me go.

I smiled as I followed him into the house.

“You wanted to protect me. How sweet.” I said in a sing song manner. He frowned as he walked up the stairs.

I continued to follow him, teasing him on the way.

“You are annoying me. Stop.”

I saw that as encouragement and continued to tease him even more. The frown on his face grew, making my smile grow. I had forgotten about being sad, and I was glad that Kade had forgotten about me running off.

We stopped outside his bedroom door and  I grinned. “Night, Kade. Thank you for making me feel better.” I turned about, ready to leave when he grabbed my hand and turned me around. A smirk had spread across his face. Fuck. Maybe I shouldn’t have teased it.

“Oh no you don’t.Sweetheart, do you really think I am going to forget that you tried to leave? Sure you came back on your own, but I don’t want you to try to do it again.” He leaned down to where his face was right in front of mine and I shivered.

“What are you going to do?” His body was close to mine and I could smell him.

“It’s more what you are going to do. You will be spending the night with me in my room.” He grinned making it my turn to frown.

Sure Kade had slept in my room my third night living here, but that was different. This was his room and there was a growing tension between us. My heart beat rapidly. I was having to hold myself back from giving myself in to him and this was not going to help.

“That’s funny,” I laughed awkwardly, “But no.” I tried to pull my hand away from him but his grip was firm.

“Go shower. You need it after walking through the woods all night. I expect it won’t take more than an hour for you to get ready?” I nodded slowly. Kade’s voice was serious and I didn’t want to argue with him- I had done too much of that tonight and I didn’t want to push him over the edge.

His grip released and he smiled wickedly. “Good girl. Come back here when you are ready.”

I sighed and walked to my room. I was nervous about staying in his room. What if he wanted to feed from me? What if he wanted to do things with me? I shivered at the thought and took a look in the mirror. I had taken off my clothes, ready for the shower, and I now starred at my naked reflection. Who was I kidding? There was no way he would want someone who looked like me. I had nothing to worry about.

I showered, scrubbing at my skin hard. I was covered in sweat and I had leaves in my hair. When I was done I slipped on a pair of gym shorts with a tanktop and a jacket on top. After I was done getting ready, I took one last look in the mirror. It was time to accept my fate and go to Kade’s room.

I knocked on Kade’s door and stood waiting. What was taking him so long? After several minutes of waiting, I opened his door slowly. I looked around his room and gasped. It was amazing. One of the walls was a full window looking out at the woods and a small pond. Another wall consisted of a large book case covered in old books that were neatly organized. In the middle of the shelves was a TV and several gaming system. The third wall consisted of his king sized bed and a spiral set of stairs that led up to the next floor.

I heard water running and assumed he was in the shower. I took that as my chance to walk upstairs. It les to a small, simple loft. The only interesting thing was a metal ladder leaning against the wall and a hatch in the ceiling right above it. I went to open the hatch when I heard the water cut off. I quickly ran down the small staircase and flopped on the bed. It was incredibly comfortable and I pulled the blanket on top of me. I grabbed the remote and switched the TV on in order to make it look like I was browsing.

Kade walked out of the bathroom wearing nothing but a pair of sweatpants. They clung to his body and I starred. His abs were exposed revealing a six pack. His body made his room small in comparison. Desire filled me and I tore my eyes off of him.

“Enjoying the view, babe?” He grinned as he dried his hair with his towel.

“Yes. It’s a pretty cool window. I bet you can see lots of animals from up here.” I mentally face palmed myself at that. Wildlife? Smooth, Scarlet. You really will attract the men like that.

Kade chuckled as he sat down in the bed next to me. I continued to scroll through the options on his television. I could feel his eyes on me but I ignored it. He finally grabbed the remote from me and set it on the bedside table.

“Take off your jacket. It’s warm in here.” I sighed and peeled it off. I felt like he was going to say something like that.

He moved close the me and starred at the bite scars on me. He moved his fingers across them and flinched.

“We will make them pay.” I heard him say so quietly I could hardly hear him.

His eyes moved up to mine and then done to my lips. He was so beautiful. Kade slowly moved in and his face stopped inches from mine. And just like that, I gave in. Our lips moved in a fierce dance; we each wanted to me in charge. It was electric. He licked my lip and I let him in. He kissed down my causing to escape my mouth. Suddenly he pulled away and I gasped.

“Why did you stop?” I breathed out. God I sounded whiny.

He smirked at me. “What you want me that bad? Just a little while ago you wanted to be gone.”

I picked up a pillow and hit him with it. “You started it.”

Kade got close to my ear and I shivered as he nibbled on it slightly. “If I keep going I won’t be able to.” I got close to his face and went to kiss him once more when he laughed and threw himself back on the bed.

“You are such a tease.” I laughed and rested my head on his chest. He touched my hair and ran his fingers through it. I traced his tattoos on his chest.

“Kade?” I whispered to him some time later.

“Yes, beautiful?”

“What did you mean earlier when you said we will make them pay?”

A smile played on his face. “We will get whoever did this to you. I promise.”
