Living in the sea is exactly what I expected it to be. It feels like I am home. It's been one whole year since I've been on land, living a somewhat normal human life. I don't want that anymore. After spending much time as a mermaid, this is how and where I belong.

It's easy to lose track of time, but I'd estimate what felt like a month in, I met god of the sea. AKA my boyfriend. His ship was wrecked during a terrible storm and he was about to drown when I saved him. I was swimming under the water with a school of fish when this large man was sinking. I swam with him to shore and nursed him back to health. We fell in love.

I never thought I'd find my soulmate here, but it happened. His name is Wesley.

The moon told me something was wrong with the family I left on land. It didn't feel right to ignore the situation, so I'll be showing up on one of their doorsteps later today. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous.

I took a break from swimming and planted myself on some rocks.

Wesley sailed over on his boat. "How about dinner tonight?" he asked. "I can't tonight. I'm going to meet up with some old friends," I told him, flicking my tail. "In here?" he asked, puzzled. I shook my head. "On land," I explained. He nodded. "Don't be gone for too long. I'll miss you," he said. I smiled at him. "I promise you'll see me again," I assured him. "Come on. I'll take you to shore," he said. I swam to his boat and hopped on with his help. He handed me a towel to dry off. When my fin dried, I grew my legs back. "Wow...that was fascinating," Wesley pointed out. "Never dated a mermaid before?" I asked, looking up at him. "Nope. You're the first and last," he smiled. I wrapped my arms around him. "Depending on how this goes, I'd like you to meet my friends," I told him. "I'd love that. And I'd also love to take you out to dinner. I know you're not fully human, but it'd be nice to spend quality time together out of the sea," he said. I nodded. "I'd love that, too," I replied. He kissed the top of my head and then we started sailing. I was getting super nervous. What if they hated me? What had happened?
