Even though I am a big autumn lover, the changing of the seasons is a really hard time for me. Everything tends to be more exhausting. Friendships are harder to keep up with, school and work can make you feel overwhelmed. Waking up is harder because it is dark outside. However, I have found that when life seems hard, you can not let that mindset take over your life.

Accepting how you feel, your behavior and thoughts is a part of your journey. Positive thoughts create positive things. So here is a list of important things to remember today.

  • That embarrassing experience that happened in the past? It might have been weird, but everyone else forgot about that already. Stop punishing yourself for events that happened long ago. Even if the thought of it makes you cringe or feel embarrassed, time heals everything.
  • You look absolutely fine. Everytime you look at yourself in the mirror, tell yourself beauty is not everything there is to life. You are so much more than what you see.

  • Don't be afraid to ask for help. I've spent too much time in my life worrying that I would look foolish for asking. Most people don’t mind if you ask questions. We ask questions because we want to improve and learn new things. There's nothing bad about it.
  • If there is nothing you can do, then stop worrying. Our problems are very, very small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things. So don’t worry, just do what makes you happy.

  • Read more books. There's no situation a good book can't fix. Reading keeps us inspired, open-minded, smart and sharp. Books can provide us information we didn’t even know we were interested to learn. For you guys, who don’t read already, try it.
  • Laugh more. Laughter has a funny way of bringing people together. Don't be afraid to be goofy. Spend at least half an hour a day doing something that makes you smile. Smile when you greet others, watch funny movies, spend more time with friends.

  • Our struggle isn’t something we should hide. Bringing healing to our pain and our past is something we should't be afraid of. Remember, problems are expected. Happiness will always require some kind of struggle. The only failure is giving up. Everything else is just gathering information.
  • Surrender to the present moment. Realise life is a gift. Trust the wait and embrace the uncertainty. Don’t wait for something terrifying to shake you before you decide to start living. Live in the now.

  • Treat your body well, and always prioritise your health. Remind yourself that you deserve to lead a happy life. Tell yourself the things you want to hear. Compliment yourself in front of the mirror. Be your own best friend.
  • Love yourself and others wholeheartedly. Be in the company of people who understand you and maintain distance from people who add no value to your life. Trust in the goodness of others, and always listen to your instinct.
