Happy Friday, amazing Hearters! It’s Kaylee here with a fun article. I hope you’re having a fantastic day so far.

So, fall is finally among us. It’s time for those PSLs, fall treats, sweaters, flannels, scarfs, beanies, all things pumpkin, and stunning fall photos! This year I’ve been in the fall spirit since the middle of August. Usually, I’m reluctant to accept summer is over and fall is here, but I couldn’t help it. I’m overflowing with all things fall and cozy.

Earlier last week, I created a fall photoshoot of my own with my boyfriend (who took these amazing pictures, so photo credit goes to him). In this article, I’ll share the photos we took, as well as little tips to create the perfect photoshoot. So, let’s get started, shall we?

Fall Photography Ideas

Tips and Tricks

Since I first saw the photos of people using color powder (or holi powder), I have been obsessed. I’ve wanted to take pictures with it for so long. And I finally did. It was so fun and messy, and the best part, I got to be super creative. How, you might ask? I created my own! Interested in finding out how to make your own color powder? Keep on reading.

How To Make Color Powder

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Cornstarch
  • Water
  • Spoon
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Oven
  • Parchment paper
  • Food coloring

Steps:

1. Take some cornstarch (how much you use is up to you)
2. Add a few drops of food coloring of your choice and mix until the cornstarch is a light shade of that color
3. Add a spoonful of water and mix well. The cornstarch will begin to clump up, but don’t worry. Just keep mixing it until the clump breaks and you’re left with a powdery substance.
4. Repeat step 3 until you’re happy with the brightness of your color.
5. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees.
6. Place parchment paper on the cookie sheet and place your powder on the parchment paper. Put the powder in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes.
7. That’s it. You can transfer the powder into plastic baggies for easy transportation. You can make as many or as little as you want.

Tip: When taking your pictures, bring water to wash your hands off. The color will stay on your hands until rinsed with water.

Cool Places to Take Photos

I live in New Jersey, which means many hiking trails and a few parks here and there. If you live in the area, Garrett Mountain is a must when taking pictures. It’s absolutely beautiful there. With that being said, here are a few ideas on where to take pictures.

  • A hiking trail
  • A secluded path
  • By a castle
  • Cornfields
  • Sunflower field
  • Among nature in general

Photoshoots are fun, there’s no doubt about it. But here are a few things to keep in mind before embarking on your photo-crazed adventure.

1. Be yourself. Don’t be afraid to show your goofy side. Just be yourself and go with whatever is thrown your way.
2. Embrace the uncertainty. So my photoshoot didn’t go exactly as planned. I didn’t get all the photos I wanted, but I had so much fun while doing it. If you don’t have a plan, that’s okay. If you have a plan and it changes along the way, that’s okay, too. Just embrace it and smile.
3. Candid photos are the best kind of photos. This is a personal opinion. In most cases, candid photos will capture your excitement more than the planned photos. So whoever you ask to take pictures for you, tell them to go crazy. Take photos as you’re throwing that color powder or walking down that trail. Maybe you’re walking and you fall. A picture will probably capture that perfect smile while laughing after you get up. True beauty is captured in the unplanned.
4. Have fun. Make sure you have fun and don’t stress. This photoshoot is meant to bring excitement and smiles.

That’s all I have for you guys. If you create your own photoshoot, I’d love to see the photos you end up taking! We can all create beautiful pictures if we put our minds to it.

Like always, I hope you have an amazing rest of your day and week. Remember to keep smiling. You never know who will need it.

XO,
Kaylee
