Hello, beautiful Hearters! Happy Thursday! I hope you're having a fantastic day.

So, I'm officially starting up my #KaysSchoolSeries. I should have started this a few weeks ago, but I'm actually having an easy school week so I thought why not start it now? Every Thursday I will be posting a new school-related article that will help you get through the year and conquer like the boss babe you were meant to be.

So let's get started, shall we?

Tips To Take Effective Notes

1. Color Coordinate

I am obsessed with using color in my notes (this is the understatement of the year). Adding color helps me decipher what points may be more important and allows me to organize between classes (like the color of pages for certain classes).

When adding color, use it in a way that will be beneficial to you. For example, I use blue for key points, red for important dates, purple for important people, green for vocabulary, and so on. Make a system that you know is right for you.

2. Keep An Organized Area

It's super important to keep your notes organized. You can use binders, notebooks, folders, anything really. This semester, I decided to get colored legal pads for my classes. Pink is for my critical thinking class. Blue is for college success. Green is for my English classes (creative writing and intro to children's literature). If you don't want to buy different colored paper but want to stay organized in a similar system, use colors on your notebooks, binders, folders, and so on.

3. Write A Summary After Every Class

I learned this in my college success class. After your class, write a two-paragraph summary based on what you learned and what notes you took. This will ensure that you remember the unwritten material and when you go back to study, you have a little crash course.

4. Date Your Notes

I was taught to do this since middle school. Before writing down your notes, make sure you put down the unit title, the date, and the section so you can keep your notes in order. This helped me a lot in not only my high school career, but in college, too.

5. Mark Your Notes

So this might sound weird, but hear me out. If you're sitting in a lecture and you hear something that confuses you, write it down and place a question mark by it. This way you know it confused you and to seek help afterward. You can also mark your notes in these ways

  • Underline for emphasis
  • Underline twice if it's important enough to be mentioned more than once
  • Draw a box around items that might be on a quiz or test
  • Circle a word that you don't know
  • Draw an exclamation point next to important people or dates

That's all I have for you guys. I hope this helped you in some way or another. Good luck in your academic endeavors and I'll see you tomorrow with another article.

(Also, my writer's team article goes up tomorrow, so be sure to check that out, too!)

Like always, I hope you have an amazing rest of your day and week. Remember to keep smiling. You never know who will need it.
