Every year I try to have the ultimate summer glow-up!
IN NO SHAPE OR FORM AM I ENFORCING A BAD LIFESTYLE, AS I AM AWARE, IN SPECIFIC MY DIET, ISN’T THE HEALTHIEST. I AM SIMPLY STATING WHAT I DO, AND I DO NOT ENCOURAGE YOU TO COPY ME!

DIET

During summer I like to eat considerably less than usual.

An average day on my summer diet would consist of :

11:00AM-1:00PM = Breakfast/Lunch;
a bowl of cereal. (Roughly 150kcals)
a cup of tea (30kcals)

”snack” between meals = a cup of tea

Sometime between 4:00PM-6:00PM = dinner;
anything really. (Roughly 600kcals)

8:00PM-10:00PM = bedtime snack;
a cup of tea (30kcals)

If I feel REALLY hungry between my two meals, then I do allow myself to eat, normally it would be something simple like another bowl of cereal or a piece of toast.

  • During my diet routine, I also take appetite suppressant pills, which I do not encourage, but I do find that they help me on my journey.
  • I try to drink AT LEAST 1000ml of pure water a day
  • I allow myself cheat days. Once a week I allow myself something “nice”, like a small chocolate bar, or a biscuit with my tea.
  • If I go out to a restaurant (which is rare anyway, so it’s okay) I won’t be a Debby downer and order the salad, I will eat “well”. There’s no point punishing yourself.

EXERCISE

Exercise is my downfall.
I can handle my diet well, I have quite good will-power, but my exercise never goes to plan.

Last summer my exercise went better than expected, but it was not consistent. My diet is my main focus so I’m not as worried about my exercise, but I seriously hope I improve this year.

I do not have a solid exercise regime but I use the app, “sworkit”, and I swear by this.

  • As for the intensity and length of my workout this summer, I am hoping that I do AT LEAST 30 minutes of cardio, 4 days a week.
  • Last summer I also did yoga for 2 weeks, so I am hoping to do that again. Not religiously though, just for 10 minutes before bed every night.
  • Then on top of this, I hope to increase my general walking. I hope to get more active in my everyday life.

Of course this may seem like nothing to a sporty person (or even the average person) but I truly am not an exercise(y) person. So this is insane for me.

MENTAL HEALTH

Eating less than recommended & having an unusual exercise routine can wreck havoc on anyones mental state.

Therefore, I have a plan in state where I’m going to be more social and take up more hobbies this summer to deflect my mind from everything. (More of that in next couple of topic things)

  • I also am not ashamed to say I actively use Childline and seek out help from people online.
  • I’m going to surround myself with positive people and things.

SKIN/HAIR ROUTINE

My hair is naturally black, and of just below shoulder length. It is in relatively good condition.

But as of recently, seeing as it’s the end of a year, I’ve been out to parties and events more often which = straightening, curling and overall damaging my hair.

So this summer I want to completely detox my hair.

  • I’m going to have it in a bun or tied back whenever I go out, so it stops me from wanting to straighten it.
  • Stemming from that I’m not going to use heat on my hair whatsoever (unless it’s a really important event).
  • I’m going to deep condition my hair once a week.
  • Trim my hair every 2 weeks.
  • Only use expensive/good quality shampoos and conditioners.

skin care

I used to have a really extensive skin care rorutine but I found that that broke me out, therefore I’ve toned down the amount of products I use.

AM
Daily

  • I use a vitamin e pad (like a toner)
  • moisturise
  • put Vaseline on my eyebrows and eyelashes

PM
Daily

  • Wash my face with water

Weekly

  • Cleanse my face 3 times a week
  • Use a scrub 2 times a week
  • Use a face mask 2 times a week

SOCIAL LIFE

Most summers I like to keep to myself.
I find summer less of a “free” period and more of a detox/get my life together period.

It’s 2 months to get my life’s into check, so I tend to keep reserved.

Although, I do hope to overall get out more. And take up any opportunities to be social.

OTHER PERSONAL TASKS

Other tasks I want to achieve during the summer :

  • I want to master eyeliner (+wing)
  • Write more poems / write more in general
  • Finish at least 4 long program series’
  • Read a good book (lmao)
  • Stop biting my nails

WHY?

Why do I want to do all this? Isn’t summer time to have fun? Is what you’re probably asking.

Yes, I guess.

But as I stated above, I find summer as a great opportunity for rehabilitation, if you will.
You have no distractions.

Therefore it’s prime time to detox from bad habits.
Then in September you’re a new person, and honestly the thrill makes it all worth it. The results. It’s an amazing feeling.

Yes, it’s a tough time, and mentally you do suffer, but I find the results to be worth it in the long run.

im starting my summer glow-up on the 1st of July, so maybe like/love this article because I was thinking of giving use all weekly updates and taking you along with me on this journey?
