Coachella has always been one of those things I assumed only the rich and famous got to experience. Until last year, one of my closest friends went and my whole world flipped upside down. She invited me to come with her to the next one and I kind of laughed. I asked my parents, thinking they would also laugh and say absolutely not. But they said it could be my Christmas present and I about lost my shit.

We bought a ticket off StubHub the same day that the lineup came out, and it still didn't feel real. Surely something would go wrong, or the ticket would end up being fake. I thought there was no way I would actually get to go.

But I did.

Needless to say it was an absolute dream come true. We got to the grounds on Thursday to camp, and watched the sun set over the valley. Everyone gathered on this big hill to hang out, play music, and look at the beautiful view. This is a picture I took from that evening:

Everyone was so nice and I felt like I could make friends with anyone. We were even dancing, holding hands with, and hugging literal strangers. The love and good vibes that we shared is indescribable.

It was literally heaven on earth. An alternate reality. A different universe.
I can't even express the energy that was in the air there. I had seen plenty of pictures of it, but nothing could have prepared me for the experience of it.

And obviously, the reason people go to Coachella; the art and the music. Each day we watched about twelve hours of performances, and so many of them brought out huge surprise guests like G-Eazy, 21 Savage, Chance the Rapper and freaking Destiny's Child!! Then later when we got back to the campgrounds, there was a silent disco that went on like all night long. My group went until about 2-3am every night.

By the end of the weekend, I had never been so tired in my entire life. We barely slept any because the excitement of everything made it hard to. During the last show (Eminem), I literally had to sit on the ground in the middle of the crowd because I thought I was going to pass out. But it was so worth it.

A few of my favorite sets that are definitely worth watching on youtube:

  • Brockhampton
  • Alison Wonderland
  • SZA
  • Beyonce
  • Vince Staples
  • Louis the Child

I definitely think it's something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. Every single second was worth every penny and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
