A lot of times when people go on trips, they have a stressful time and forget to just live in the moment, so here's some tips to help you have the best time.

Set a budget

Before even picking a destination, you need to decide on a budget. When it comes to choosing your budget, you should base it on three things. Decide when you're going, how long you want to stay, and if you're going alone or with others.

Choose a destination

When it comes to choosing a destination, it's all about what your budget looks like. The bigger it is, the bigger your choice becomes. If your budget is around 1k, you should stick closer to your area. Start by choosing 2 or 3 options and then do your research until you've decided which one is best for you at that moment.

Budgeting

Once you've completed the steps above, you can start planning. The first thing you want to do is find a hotel. There's hotels that range from $60 a night to over $300 a night. If you have a smaller budget, you might want to consider staying in hostels ( Hotels where you share a room with others ) If you'd like a room to yourself, consider motels and lower quality hotels, and always look for deals.

Once you know there's a hotel out there for you, book a flight if necessary. Find the cheapest flight you can, and make sure it has at least decent quality. If you're driving, consider paying for a greyhound ticket, as they're way cheaper than if you were to pay for gas.

While traveling, a big portion of your budget goes to food. Obviously you can eat where ever if you have a huge budget, but I'd suggest finding a balance of fancy and to-go food, because I think we'd all rather spend money on souvenirs and site seeing than eating. Some tips to cut back on how much you're spending for food is to visit a grocery store, I'd suggest doing this when you get there so you can save some luggage space, and stock up some of your favorite snacks and quick easy meals. You don't need to do this for every meal of course, but using this trick for maybe one meal and one snack could save a ton of money.

Another portion of your budget goes to transportation, the best way you can cut back on how much you spend for transportation is to avoid taxi's at all costs. Use buses, subways, rent bikes, ect.

And lastly, stick to your budget as much as possible. I know how hard it is to pass up a shirt or item you want, but if you're tight on money for the trip you really have to. If you know you wont be able to, pick up some extra shifts and put that money aside, and stick to a strict spending money budget. I'd also suggest having an extra $100 in case an emergency comes up, you absolutely need a cab, ect.

Plan ahead

Whilst touring, a lot of money goes to attractions. Most of them are free, but make sure you do your research and figure out which ones you have to pay for, and how much they are. If you're on a tighter budget, or you just would rather save money, make sure the attraction is worth your money.

Decide how much you want to spend each day. I'd recommend $20 for buses. $30-$50 for food, depending on how much you eat, if you're alone, etc. And lastly, don't buy all of your friends a ton of items. One or two will do, not the whole store. Buy yourself what you want, but only if its a reasonable price and something you'd actually use, wear, or collect.

You can have fun and explore without breaking the bank by following these tips and watching how much you spend. Don't forget to step back and have fun, don't worry too much about how much your spending, as long as you know your limit you'll be fine.
