Hello there!

In today's article, I decided to talk about stress as it is something really common for us students. It doesn't matter if it is high school or university, we all go through it. I will be touching on some organization tips, some ideas to unwind and more.

So let's get started!

Organize your work environment

If you have read some of my past articles, you would know how I truly believe that our environment has an impact on our minds. So the first thing we should do is making our enviroment represent how we want our mind to be!

1. Avoid piles

Go through your piles and put things back to their place. If you are dealing with papers go through them, throw away those that are not important anymore and organize the rest. Using files is a great idea, as you can keep papers that fit the same categories in the same place and it doesn't take much space. And it also looks so much cleaner! Remember that tags will make it so much easier for you to later on find the papers you are looking for!

Always try re use as many paper as you can! For example, for university I print my material to study, so once the test is over, I don't just throw away those papers as I have only printed one side of them. This means that I can totally use the other side as draft paper!

2. Keep the top of your desk as empty as possible

This is what we will see first when we look at our desk, so keeping it clean and empty won't clutter our vision and will make our rooms look tidier. Try to just keep what's necessary and put the rest inside your drawers.

3. Get drawer organizers

As I just said, you should try to keep the top of your desk as empy as possible, which means, you will need to find a system for your drawers so they don't start getting cluttered. Drawer organizers will help you keep them neat and tidy. They will also make it easier for you to find things next time you need them!

4. Keep it tidy

Now that you have sorted everything, take a few minutes once your day is over to put everything back to its place. Maybe you feel lazy to do it but think about it this way. Today you have only 3 things to put away. Tomorrow you will have another 5. If you keep on being lazy to clean it up, things will keep pilling up and you will get to a moment when you have 20+ things to go through. Make it easier to your future self and start today!

1. Create folders

This is the only way you can have things organized on your laptop or computer. Find a system that works for you. I'm the kind of person that has a folder, inside a folder, inside a folder. Being as specific as possible helps me.. but I know some people find that annoying. So stick to whatever system works for you, but have a system!

2. Back up important files

We all have gone through a technology crush, and it is not something nice. Always back up your important files as you never know when something could go wrong!

3. Have your desktop as empty as possible

It is not nice to turn on your computer and be welcomed by tons of files in your desktop. It looks messy and you will spend time looking for that specific file you need. Just keep there what's important. But the emptier the better.

I only keep the projects I'm currently working on and my "WHI" folder, in which I have some articles drafts, pictures to upload etc.

4. Have an inspiring desktop wallpaper

As I just mentioned, your desktop is the first thing you see when you turn on your laptop, so a good idea to keep you motivated and inspired even when you have a lot of things to get done, is remind yourself why you are doing all these things. So create a collage with all your goals and things that inspire you and set it as your desktop wallpaper to see it all the time!

Get planning

Make a to-do list for each day and set priorities. This will help you focus on what you have to do today and stop worrying about you have to do tomorrow, the next day and the following week. Things can get overwhelming, so writing them down on paper lets you stop thinking about them and focus on what's important today.

Laugh

It may sound cliché but it is the best medicine for any bad mood you can go through. Spend time with people who are good to you and care about you. Don't let work prevent you from having a social life. Even a skype call is better than nothing. Try watching a funny movie or tv show/series. If you have a big test coming, maybe have a study date! But don't isolate yourself from the people that makes you happy no matter how busy or stressed you are.

Get quality sleep

Have a night time routine that includes time to unwind from all the work you did during the day. Make your night a time to take care of yourself after a long day.

| Get the same amount of sleep every night

We need to sleep around 8 hours each night to be at our best. However, you can improve the quality of sleep if you are consistent in the amount of hours you sleep. Let's say you are super busy and there's no way you could sleep 8 hours (bc same). Try to get the same amount of sleep every night. Don't sleep six hours a day during the week and then sleep ten hours a day on weekends. It will make you feel more tired as you sleep is not balanced.

| Have a routine

Go to bed and wake up around the same time every day. This will help you to achieve the last item as it will be easier for you to go to bed and wake up!

| Get in the zone

It would be ideal to start your night routine an hour before bed. Avoid watching TV or using your phone. Instead, focus on activities that will get your mind and body into sleep mode. Read or listen to calming music, write on a journal, etc.

Take a break

Even when you feel the day doesn't have enough hours to get everything done, take a break. It will help you to work better afterwards as you will be able to focus better on your tasks. Here I will list some ideas for you:

  • Listen to relaxing music
  • Drink some green tea
  • Call a friend
  • Take a shower
  • Exercise
  • Go for a walk
  • Light a candle (some claming scents I recommend are lavender, rose and orange)
  • Have a healthy snack
  • Spend time with your pets
