Start slowly

Take it easy at first. If you haven't exercised in a long time, it's important to start slow when you begin an exercise regimen. It is always advised that you consult a physician before you begin any type of exercise program. Be careful not to push yourself too hard. Give yourself time to warm up and cool down with easy walking or gentle stretching.

Get Real

Remember to make your goals realistic and achievable. Most people fail at their fitness goals because they're waiting for something spectacular to happen.

Write down how you feel after every workout

This way you can find out if you have made progress.

Surround yourself with motivation

You can find motivation in other people. Find someone who is similar like you. It can be someone from your family, friend or some celebrity. You can also find motivation in words. Make a collection of quotes that will motivate you to exercise.

Listen to audiobooks

When you exercise, listen to audiobooks so that tomorrow, when you need, you have the motivation to exercise because you have to see how things are going on.

Choose an activity you like

Find sports or activities that you enjoy. If you're not enjoying your workouts, try something different.

Have a friend or group to exercise with you

Choose a friend who will encourage you to exercise. You can also exercise with them. You can play soccer with your friends and go to the gym too.

If you are not athlete you should not immediately run a 5km, so start with a slow walk and when your fitness improve you can run 30 minutes. Find a friend who will run with you. Buy running shoes and go!

Reward yourself along the way

Celebrate milestones, such as after you’ve stuck to the plan for one week, one month, two months, and so on. Just don’t celebrate with food. Go see a movie, get tickets to a concert, download new music for your workout playlist — choose songs that will inspire you during future workouts, buy new workout clothes, an MP3 player for your workout, or new computer game you can only play after exercise.

Prepare for your workouts

Lay out your clothes for your morning workout before you go to bed at night or even sleep in them. You can also pack your gym bag so you can just grab and go when you leave in the morning.

Try a new way of exercising

A video, a class, a sport, etc. is a good way to motivate you to exercise. Even an app with virtual coach is good.

Go for a walk with your dog

The dog needs activity, just like you, so if you have a dog and the will, take it to the park or to the forest in nearby.
